So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

I got my room insulated and shimmed. Then I got the last few spaces in the room below insulated - this was just cutting offcuts to fit into the spaces between ceiling joists and wall studs. The most recent project is rebuilding a wall. The old wall had a very old frame for a sliding pocket door...

    The worst weather event

I was on vacation when Hurricane Sandy went right overhead. Truth be told had it not been for the news I wouldn't have noticed it was a superstorm - it was a bit wet and windy but aside from that it wasn't a big deal where I was. Aside from that mostly just storms and relentless rain. I think 4...

What do you do on rainy days?

Much the same as on sunny days, except without so much outdoor stuff. I don't like days when it rains all day. I like to get out for a walk/hike/run every day if I can to keep my exercise levels up. If it rains I have to find some other way of moving around, and it can be hard to get any decent...

    Difficult Hymns to Sing?

Anything that moves to a very high pitch. I found myself literally grimacing at church today a couple of times because the pitch went so high. From the way the singing volume dropped off it sounds like others struggled with it too.

    Meat eaters:

I guess aside from human I don't know I have such a list. I don't feel any particular desire to eat things like cat, whale, dolphin etc but don't have a specific list of things I would refuse to eat.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Another run today. I wasn't really feeling like running when I set off, and spent much of the run wishing I'd stayed on the couch. But I got the miles in, even if it really felt like a battle today. Maybe the next time will be better.

USA Global warming issue. Naturally occurring or Man made?

Another interesting thing is the relentless push to "energy efficient" appliances. Which is all well and good, except for the built-in obsolescence in everything these days. Because nothing says "environmentally friendly" like planning to send your nice new fridge to the landfill within five...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Rest day from running today so went for a hike in the woods. I wasn't really feeling it today but pressed on regardless. During the descent, about six miles in, I started to feel more at peace in the woods - until then my brain was just constantly stuck on the other things I could have been...

USA How can Trump run for president

If he didn't serve a second term the term limit doesn't apply yet. Whatever he believes happened in 2020 he's not in the White House now.

Have you ever told God that you were angry at Him?

I wouldn't normally post quite so bluntly but, since you asked, there have been times when my prayer (if it can even be called that) has been little more than "f--- you God, I'm done with this". There have been a few times when I really haven't been sure that my faith would survive at all. If...

USA Global warming issue. Naturally occurring or Man made?

I think it's important to consider our environment but the current carbon craze is just getting silly. When California apparently thinks it's necessary to phase out gas powered cars but has no problem at all with private jets you know there's something going on that's not what it seems...

    What is better,

Depends on the context. If you're going to be a brain surgeon it's probably better to be a master of brain surgery than being reasonably good at a whole load of things. When it comes to regular living I think it's probably better to be able to turn your hand to many different things than be...

Fines Dropped for Church that Defied Covid Restrictions

It makes sense, especially when cannabis dispensaries that were literally illegal just a few years ago somehow managed to gain "essential" status. So apparently it's important that you can get stoned but deadly to meet with a few others at church.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Nasty weather this evening, with unpredictable forecasts. I'm itching to get into the woods to hike, haven't done that for about three weeks now. I'm contemplating going for a single longer hike and accepting I'll be out for most of the day. I can carry plenty of water with me and keep it...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Yesterday it was a bit cooler so I pushed the speed a little on a 5-mile run. I wasn't breaking any speed records but did manage to shave about 20 seconds/mile off the speed I've been going more recently. Still significantly slower than my winter speeds but nice to get a bit more power down...

CBS Blames Childhood Obesity on Climate Change

Another problem, in some areas at least, is the relentless focus on getting motor vehicles through places as fast as possible. Certainly there need to be routes where traffic can get from A to B as easily as is sensibly possible. But when those routes go through residential areas and yet there...
