    Returning to the moon

At least some of the theories revolving around the moon landing being a hoax are based on the premise that the USA needed to get to the moon before the USSR in order to tip the balance of power in the Cold War, and that by staging the hoax they gained the edge when the Soviets actually had...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

I was following a training plan to improve my running speed, and it had me running longer distances. One day I figured if I was going to be running 12 miles I might as well extend it a little and make it a half marathon distance. If you're talking about short bursts of intense exercise, when...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Yesterday my wife and I went for a walk in the morning and it was horribly warm and humid. We weren't walking particularly fast but were still dripping with sweat when we got home. Today's run was a sweat fest - for a time there was a cool breeze but I took the chance between the light rain and...

What would make you want to pay more taxes?

With this lot in charge I wouldn't trust them with extra money, even if Russia and China invaded at the same time.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

A few good runs lately. I shifted my focus back to maintaining distance rather than speed, which helps in the heat and humidity, and looked to get all the way around the loop without taking any walk breaks. The last few times I've made it the full way around, and my average pace has slightly...

    When washing your hands

I mostly use foaming soap so wet my hands, add a pump of soap, then wash. How long I wash them depends on how dirty they are - if it's a simple routine matter of washing hands before handling food it's usually fairly brief but if my hands and forearms are blackened with dirt from working on the...

What would make you want to pay more taxes?

I would want to see cutbacks in government waste before being willing to pay anything more in taxes. I know taxes aren't the sort of thing we get a choice in but I've said for a long time I consider it a moral imperative to pay as little in taxes as I can manage without breaking the law.

    School Days

My teachers let me down badly. They completely failed to indicate how racist numbers can be. So now I'm stuck with this white supremacist idea that 1+1=2 and everything that follows from that.

    Student Loan Payoffs

Sometimes I wonder if what is legal even matters any more. It reminds me of a quote I saw years ago that said "the illegal we can do today, the unconstitutional takes a bit longer"?

    Student Loan Payoffs

My friend says his mortgage identifies as a student loan. I wonder if he will get $10,000 off.

Do you bring your bible to church?

What an epic response. I stand in awe of your erudite comments.

Do you bring your bible to church?

Whatever you're smoking, can I have some? Seriously dude. Where do you get off on making these wild assumptions about why people make the choices they make? I don't really care about "status" associated with having a Bible on my phone. It's not as if having a smartphone is any kind of status...

    Returning to the moon

It could be cool to have some kind of robot on the surface of the moon that could send back pictures regularly, perform its assorted analyses of rock samples and whatever else might be of interest there. You never know, maybe if we sent one to Mars we could get some real life pictures of Marvin...

Do you bring your bible to church?

I often find that if I want to sit and read a book and think about it I'd rather have a physical book. A physical book can go anywhere and won't keep beeping at me with reminders of other things. That said if all I'm doing is reading along in church it makes little difference whether I use a...

Which denomination best resembles the Church of the 1st Century?

Well, my denomination. Because, obviously, duh.... :)

    Online friends

They can be but caution is warranted. I have people I met on forums similar to this one that I loosely consider friends. I've spoken to them on the phone and spent a lot of time talking online, both via forums and private chat facilities. I urge caution because it's so much easier to maintain a...

    Scrapes or dents

A couple of very minor dings that you have to look quite hard to see, and a couple of trivial scratches. They were there when I bought the car.

Do you bring your bible to church?

On my tablet the screen is big enough that my Bible app can show me the text on one side of the screen and commentaries (my choice, and I can flick between them) on the other side. For good measure I can also select different Bible translations and put them side by side if I want to. There are...

Do you bring your bible to church?

But, but, but, they can't be the same because they are some newfangled technology that clearly isn't as good as the original. Maybe we should get rid of these silly paper Bibles and go back to using scrolls, just to be safe. It could be a bit tedious carrying lots of scrolls to church - you...
