Do you bring your bible to church?

I guess that thwarts the devil's cunning plan to lead people astray by having different text in the phone app than in the Real Bible (TM), and by putting the wrong words on the screen so people think it says something it doesn't really say.

    Gender reveal parties

Personally I don't see the point in them but if others want to do them then I'd say have at it.

Do you bring your bible to church?

A lot of the time this sort of thing is down to preference.

    Backyard treehouses

They weren't much of a thing when I was a child. Only last night I watched a friend's kids so they could have an evening off, and those kids have an impressive tree house. It's built around a pretty big tree, and is big enough that I can stand upright in it.

Haven't used tabasco in a while, I prefer something hotter.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

My new wall is now finished, at least from a framing perspective. All the old studs are removed and the new ones are cut and secured in place. Now I need to shim out a door frame because I want to put a door in there, and pull down and replace another stud wall. At least I know this stud wall...

At what temp do you wear a jacket?

When I feel cold enough to need it. I don't think there's a specific number that's relevant to that. Some days I feel cold more easily, other days I can be out in the snow and a single layer is enough.

What would lure you to move across the country?

The same that would lure me to move anywhere else - a life that's sufficiently better than the one I currently have to make it worth giving up the aspects of my current life that I like.

    Worst financial decision

Back in around 2005 I had the chance to buy a fairly substantial amount of gold. At the time it was at a 25-year high and I figured that wasn't the time to be buying. The price was about $450/oz....

    Having no home

If it was simple enough to answer on a forum it would be simple enough to fix it.

Ladies, ever thought about being a Deaconess?

LCMS might have a unique interpretation of what a deaconess is but other denominations have deacons and deaconesses in church. At my last church the deacons could be male or female and looked after the fabric of the building. It was often said that if you needed spiritual support you'd go to an...

    What is the worst disaster?

I read something a while ago (don't know if it's accurate, but sounds plausible) that suggested the second bomb on Nagasake was intended to show that the first bomb wasn't a fluke. It changed the narrative from "check out this prototype bomb and the damage it can do" to something more like...

    Student Loan Payoffs

Yep, more and more people are expected to take responsibility for things other people did, while being absolved of responsibility for the things they did.

    Student Loan Payoffs

Yep, nothing says pandering to your base like expecting the lowest paid to subsidise the choices made by the not-quite-highest paid. Yeah, there's a $250,000 earnings cap for a couple. I'm sure the waitress married to the janitor appreciates their tax money not being handed out to the...

    What is the worst disaster?

True, Hiroshima and 9/11 were deliberate acts while presumably Chernobyl was not. That alone would suggest Chernobyl was more of a "disaster" from any perspective. Hiroshima and 9/11 were obviously disasters from the perspectives of those on the receiving end of the attacks even if much less...

    USA Trump sues

If they found what they were looking for that doesn't necessarily mean what it might imply. I read an article recently explaining how, when a former president moves out of the White House, typically their personal possessions are gathered up by a team of movers and it's far from rare for things...

    You taught yourself

Hard to say what the last thing I formally taught myself was. The last project I figured out as I went along was rebuilding a wall in my house. Most of the most recent things I've taught myself have been about fixing up my house - wiring, plumbing, repairing brickwork etc.

Ladies, ever thought about being a Deaconess?

Is it unique to LCMS? I've seen other churches who have deaconesses that aren't LCMS.

    Autocorrect

I wish autocorrect would decide whether it wants to be helpful or useless. It's handy when it catches simple typing errors on a small keyboard. It's utterly useless when I'm trying to type in something and it decides to change it for something else entirely. Only yesterday I was trying to note...
