What is the direct answer to my question please? Was that a yes or no so as I don't get accused later on falsely for trying to guess.

when i break one of the other 9 ..then i will be breaking the first .
does christ live in us or does he not ?
he does if we have received his Holy Spirit
has he made us the righteousness of god in christ JEsus ? the scripture declare it to be so .

does the righteousness of God sin ? nope it must be cast off and rejected in order for the person to then go and commit an unrighteous act .
after all, sin is not something you think but an action you choose to DO .

Just deal with your own heart and life with god and stop playing devils advocate .

i preach the good news - jesus came to save us from sin not leave us entrapped as a slave to it
and I preach from experiential knowledge that he is fully able to do what he has said he came to do .

am i able to sin- of course . but to do so i must choose to NOT love the lord My God with all my heart and mind and strength.
wow .. the very command you are attempting to condemn me with contradicts those who are saying you do nothing to be saved .. as now your are saying we must do 3 things ..
1love with all our heart ..inner being

2 all our mind ..consciously ,

and 3 all our strength .. outward action .

what people miss is that God has made a WAY of salvation and there is nothing we have done or can ever do to make that way ..god has already done it .
but we must now choose to obediently walk IN that way .

trying to accuse another did not clear adam in the garden.. it wont work now either .

have i sinned ..of course .. have i confessed it to the lord and repented of it .. of course ,, has he forgiven me and cleansed me of ALL unrighteousness ? of course .
am i now going to go back and do it again after he has been so gracious to me and spit in his face ?.. NO WAY !.. why would any one who loves him do that to the one they love ?..that's not love that's ugly ugly spiteful rebellion .
why do people suggest it is impossible to walk in obedience to the lord jesus ? when it is he who has both cleansed us , renewed us and inhabited us and EMPOWERED us by his own spirit to do exactly that . ?its time people stop pretending to be believers and actually BE believers

if we are free from the law then why is it always the law ,the people who say we are free from it, bring up ? if you can't be condemned by the law then why are you trying to condemn me -with the law ?

a better question to ask is .. how do you know if you are abiding in christ.. simple -you dont break the commandments .. you dont even want to -your not that creature any more IF you have been buried with christ into his death and raised again unto his resurrection by faith .

who here has broken one of the 10 moral absolutes this week ?

probably none of you
but you and god know .. its not for me to say nor judge ..
if you have and are repeatedly doing so .. then you need to get saved from sin , as it still has dominion over you and JEsus came to set your free so that you can become an overcomer as he overcame .
its not a message of condemnation but of salvation .
repentance is not saying sorry and then doing it again.

i used ths analogy before but it was misconstrued

so i will do it more generally.

if A PERSON has a husband .. and he says to you i must confess to you -in the weekend i was away i had sex with another woman in a motel -I committed adultery !
"i'm sorry .. please forgive me ,i wont do it again '

Firstly - he did not do so by accident , he did not bump into her on the street they both fell over and intercoursed accidently . (yes its a crude presentation but it make the point without ambiguity )
thought consideration and intent were all present . Was he thinking of you and acting in LOVE for YOU when he did so ? NOPE ,NOPE and NOPE .he could not act in love for you AND commit adultery at the same time .
THEN .. being the amazing person you are you see through all the pain and YOU DO act in love -you forgive him..
-then next week .. he does it again ... and the next week he does it again and the next week he does it again ...

your are NOT going to consider his repentance as aven remotely sincere .. you are going to say .. if you love me you will show it by NOT doing it again .

And yet this is what people to to GOD .. they sin and say sorry and he forgives them ,then they do it again and say sorry and he forgives them and then they sin the same sin again and say sorry ...
and they expect God to consider that to be repentance???!!! he does not anymore then you would when your partner sinned against you repeatedly..

when we beleive in jesus we beleive he is able to DO what he has PROMISED to do and set us free from that bondage to repetitive sin so that we do not have to do it any more .
we are not speaking of ALL sin we are speaking of THE SIN your in bondage to ...
not all people commit all sins -there are murderers that do not steal their are idolaters that do not commit adultery .. as so many say you only need break one to have broken the law of life .. so repent of the one you're breaking .
change your mind .. cease from doing it -prove your sincerity to god when you say on sunday .."you love him ' .
love not in word but in DEED .dont just love by what you SAY but by what you DO

The holy scriptures say that sin is lawlessness. Is that not sufficient answer to the question in the first post?

No, that is completely backwards.

The first commandment and following it is about faith. Our faith is not complete yet in this life and so we DO break the first commandment. We make ourselves our own god all the time. You keep asking for a specific sin you commit and you commit the sin against the first commandment just as we all do. We don't all fully trust God in our daily lives since we pose OUR will over his all the time.

Yes, Jesus covers us of this sin yet we still commit it. That's the Law Gospel truth that you've distorted.

Some people have diminished what sin is though. It's much deeper than they think.

Do you know what they think?

Absolutely since it's been posted on the site ;) Not everyone knows the full extent or wants to believe what the full extent of sin consists of. They reduce it to something far less and think they're doing okay.

Everything not done out of faith is sin. If you know how to do good and not do it it's sin. A perfect man has his tongue under control but no man can control the tongue, only the Holy Spirit. Harold Hill had a very sharp tongue. He just asked the Holy Spirit to control it and spoke in tongues a lot. Babies haven't overcome the evil one, only the youngsters, so it's simply about growing up. It's nice to hear a testimony from a mature father in Christ, but a grown up can show a baby: look, do just as me, just walk. I'm afraid it won't go instantly though. Except Santa Claus. He immediately walked as a baby.

Point on!

Pride, ego, self-centerness, denial all cause people to minimize the Law - all so it looses its teeth and its purpose. They HATE and OPPOSE the Law because it accuses and condemns them and exposes the reality rather than the egotistical fantasy they egotistically pretend is the case. The Law gets watered down - perhaps until it's little more than: "it would be cool if you would occasionally sorta, kinda TRY to be nicer, when you can." They hate and oppose the Law.

The same usually hate and oppose the Gospel with equal passion
, because in their incredible ego.... and being that they ain't bad but sorta, kinda KEEP the watered-down-to-nothing "law" ... they don't need all that mercy of what the Gospel speaks. Heaven knows everyone ELSE sure does but not SELF. Self don't need no God, no Christ, no SAVIOR, no Cross, no Blood, no mercy.... oh.... maybe some divine HELP and a bit more TIME.... maybe.... but that's the MOST self needs. The Gospel offends them because it assumes THEY need all that and while everyone else does, self doesn't. Thus, when some speak of the SAVIOR, of MERCY - they object and insist all self needs is a little help from a friend (insert soundtrack from Beatles song).

Seems like the folk who imagine that everything is done for them and they are asked to do nothing are likely to underestimate the danger that they are in.

Sin .. To miss the mark.. To transgress, tresspass, disobey, rebel..refuse to do what is right,to knowingly do what is wrong.
No one is deminishing it.

It results in death . Jesus came to set us free from our guilt of it
And the power of it
And its influence.
He came to set us free from its sting..which is death.

He did not come to do all that so that we would then ignore all the HE Has done and go back into doing sin again.

If a person is knowingly continuing to do an act which they know to be sin..
It remains truth that they must repent ,change thier mind, think again, and cease from doing it.
Jesus has made this possible by setting us free by the shedding of his own blood .
It is what HE has done..so that we may be reconciled to him and walk with him .

He didnt do it so we could sneak off and walk with the devil to do his will. But that we might serve God in rightousness.

Repentance appears to be an unpopular topic.

Maybe, but I also see that people have had more than enough of being beaten up by legalism. It's no use to say 'sin no more' if someone doesn't first hear that there is no condemnation (step 1: I write you babies because your sins are forgiven and if we sin..) and if they don't also get set free from demonic influence, get healed up, maybe there are mental ilnesses, whatever, have an encounter with God, get taught who they are in Christ etc. In some churches people get saved and that's that. No follow up, just 'don't sin now!' That's why hypergrace is immensily popular now. What I saw some hypergrace people write on another forum, wow, that's just blatant going against God's Word. That row from Paul, those won't inherit the Kingdom, nooo, they say, you can even fall from your faith and still be saved. I fell from my faith. I lived in blatant sin. If I had died I would have gone to hell, but according to them I was saved all the time. Yet I must say those people do have good fruit. It's not that they live in sin. They have just been beaten up all their life by legalism and don't sin don't sin don't sin. I understand why they have enough of it, but it's quite dangerous teaching for the not spiritual ones who think they can do what they want now and are saved anyway.
Smith Wigglesworth prophecied that we would get world revival when the people with the emphasis on the Word and the ones with the emphasis on the Holy Spirit would come together.

And there is emphasis on both.. You see the good news.. Is the freedom he came to give us..
There is no legalism in repentance ..it is a response to love .
The father reaches out his arms to us and we "turn toward him " (repent) and receive his embrace.
We cant do so if we turn our back on him.
Repentance is a response to a long sought after love .

My responses here are often singular in responding to particualr words spoken against the concept of repentance.they are certainly not a representation of the whole topic.

I've been reading these threads today and have so much spinning through my mind. I have a lot to say, and I hope it comes out coherently.
Because of the fall of Adam and Eve, I was born into sin. I am a slave to sin, and there is no free will to 'not' sin. My sin nature causes me to sin daily. We sin 24/7/365, and there is nothing we can do about it. There are willful sins, accidental sins, unknown sins, sins of commission and sins of omission. I don't want to sin, but I do. As Paul said in Romans 7: " We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it."

Yes, I am a slave to sin. Because of sin I will die, but only a physical death. Why? Because I know that God sent his only Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life in my place, completely sinless - who suffered, died and rose again to complete the payment for my sins. When I leave this earth, I will enter heaven, and then, finally, I will sin no more. Thank God that He sent his Son! In the meantime, on this earth, I will strive to be a better Christian. I can improve, but not come anywhere close to perfection. I will always falter, and I will always sin. And it's not ok. I pray for forgiveness of all my sins. I go to church where I am fed the Word of God. The Word which reminds me that I am not only a sinner, but also a saint at the same time. The Word which reminds me that Jesus paid the price so that I may be saved. By partaking of the Word and Sacraments, I am forgiven of the sins that I commit constantly.

A sin is anything that is displeasing to God. We don't even know what all is sin. Some are obvious, but not all. We can very well be doing something every day that we think is just fine, but is displeasing to God. If God were to look at me, just as I am, he would see nothing but a dirty rotten sinner deserving of nothing but punishment and hell. But because he mercifully sent His Son, I am seen by God not in my sinful nature, but clothed in Christ - a sinless, perfect being. "Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
