Nope that is not what the scriptures state of the new man in christ .. that is what the scriptures state of the unsaved .. whereas the born again is given a new heart and is given the nature of christ Jesus in the holy Spirit . we are made a new creation and become unified in christ .. we are in union with him .. everything he received everything he has done everything he has inherited we are made co inheritors of .. everything he has we have everything he is we are all of his promises are yes and so be it (amen)
he died that we live
he became sin that we be righteous
he was taken captive that we might be free
and then he overcame all and then took captivity captive and we live in his victory
not in defeat .
no one but you yourself can choose to commit a sin you know to be sin ... you cant commit a sin you know to be sin by accident .

I agree with a lot of what you said because the Gospel does state indeed that we are covered in Christ's righteousness and made a new man but then there is Law too that is also true at the same time which are the verses Josiah quoted and are directed toward the believer. You don't want to believe that both Law and Gospel are true and apply to the believer which is evident by your posts and questioning when someone here tries to show you. It's super easy to fall into that false belief that you're doing okay and you aren't doing anything bad at all anymore and I know you don't want to call that sin so maybe you have another term for that your using?

ummm you do realize that you've all just contradicted yourself... there is law as well ? if you speak of the mosaic law ..then have you forgotten ? we are no longer under it .

if you speak of the law of the spirit of life in chrsit jesus ... doing it can never violate the mosaic law which we are no longer under .
abiding in one causes you to never violate the other

abiding in Christ NEVER causes a person to sin .
you have to go and do that sin yourself .

i know , its a uncomfortable topic . but i never find it uncomfortable ,,unless of course i'm guilty of continuing in an action i know to be sinful. but then if i was continuing in it i would be Unrepentant . if i was continuing in it i would be abiding in sin ... Not abiding in christ .. - we can't serve two masters . JESUS said so .

the thread topic began as "what is sin" .. the scriptures states that sin is lawlessness .." breaking the perfect law of god .

but if we live in the spirit we will not fulfill the wicked desires of the flesh,,,,

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

.. if we live according to the law of the spirit of god in chrsit jesus ..we cannot violate any law of god by doing so .
so if .. as you guys are saying , you still continue to sin an you cant ever stop doing so ... in whom are you abiding ?

Law is also progressive just as sacrifice was, so we have law after the Mosiac but it is not done away with is it? Christ Himself stated that He came to fulfill the Law not do away with it
