Visible kingship and the invisible church

When we speak of the visible church, what is meant is that the local congregation with its worship services, sacraments, clergy, preaching and so on does the work of Christ on a daily basis and everyone sees it in operation. The invisible church, on the other hand, refers to the sum of all...

    Pauline Christianity

We can guess that parts of the Bible are wrong, mistaken, invalid. But then we can not be Christians. Why? Because under those circumstances, the bedrock of the faith, the revelation we consider to be God's own word, ceases to be reliable. We would not even have a record of Christ's own life...

    Pancakes or Waffles?

Yes, yes, to the importance of the syrup and butter. But still...I don't eat pancakes too often. I really am not very interested in them, even though I'll eat them if they're served and I'll be satisfied with the meal. But as for waffles...I really do like a good waffle!

    The Sinless Human

But 'tempt' is not the issue with Christ. We know that he was tempted, but we also know that he did not sin.

    The Sinless Human

"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Heb 4:15)

    The Sinless Human

For what it's worth, I took that post of yours to be in support of what Josiah and I have been advocating for. But I also was surprised, under the circumstances, to see the "like" come along afterwards.

    The Sinless Human

I guess you'll have to explain exactly what you mean by "sin nature" as opposed to sinning if we're to get to the bottom of this. Thanks. I do not agree with the "divine human" idea, if I understand you correctly about that, for it appears to me to be suggesting a nature that is neither...

    The Sinless Human

No. I thought I was clear enough when saying that Jesus did not sin.

    The Sinless Human

Jesus had a complete human nature as well as a complete divine nature. The reason he did not sin, even though sin is common to all humans, is because he had that other nature as well and God cannot know sin. That would apply to no other human being.

Do you agree with Cancel Culture?

Well, that's not "Cancel Culture." It also is a bit insulting to have this horrible development that destroys people's lives for little or no reason made to seem like an "everyone does it" kind of thing.

    2 Questions for Trinitarians

There's no changing your mind about this, I think. However, now that we've had your theory outlined several times for us, we need to be clear that your theory--and that's all it is--stands in opposition to orthodox Christian belief AND, more important than that, to the Bible's description of the...

    2 Questions for Trinitarians

Hard so say, but I know what the Christian belief is when it comes to the Trinity...and it's not that the Holy Spirit is the Father, or that there are three different beings we call God, or that the triune nature of the Holy Trinity is nothing more than that God appeared to men in different...

    2 Questions for Trinitarians

Yes, but as you've already seen, that word--which was derived from the Greek--does not mean three separate individual beings. However, that is exactly what our friend Matthew gave as the meaning. The Scripture says that the conception was by the action of the Holy Spirit, not that the Holy...

    2 Questions for Trinitarians

I beg your pardon. Trinitarians do not believe in a three man committee that we call "God!" ☹️

    2 Questions for Trinitarians

JRT, that's not the orthodox Christian understanding of the nature of the Trinity, however. You are right that it's about persona rather than persons, if by the latter we mean separate individual beings. BUT persona in this case does not mean just different manifestations of God in our world...

    Purgatory

I have to disagree. Some do, but many do not. The fringe, cultic types of course tend to go in for that kind of thing. I've never heard it said. Nor would it seem likely, since the Church of England does not consider itself to be the "one true church" or the unique choice of Jesus Christ. I...

    Purgatory

Is there any chance that the Church would say that the choice of the Pope by the College of Cardinals was made other than as was directed by the Holy Spirit? OF COURSE NOT!

    Purgatory

Good point. And not only are elections in the College of Cardinals not free from the crass ways of ordinary political elections, but they partake of almost all of them. There is campaigning for votes by particular contenders, altering the rules for voting by sitting Popes in order to favor some...

    Purgatory

The interesting absence of Purgatory these days from Catholic sermons and literature almost certainly owes to the fact that hardly any laypersons in the church today are willing to believe this Medieval speculation that their church has described as being just like Hell except that it's not...
