If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

Maccabees doesn’t need to be affirmed by a prophet. It was affirmed by the high priest. That’s good enough. In fact, it was probably Simon Maccabee the high priest who wrote it. Isn’t it interesting? Maccabees claims that there were no prophets at that time. You have to trust 1 Maccabees is...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

Here’s Luther’s comment on 1 Maccabees: “This is another book not to be found in the Hebrew Bible. Yet its words and speech adhere to the same style as the other books of sacred Scripture. This book would not have been unworthy of a place among them, because it is very necessary and helpful for...

Why does Genesis 1 and 2 contradict?

Because it is. There’s lots of “supposed” contradictions all throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. But there are perfectly reasonable answers to them.

Why does Genesis 1 and 2 contradict?

Exactly! Give God the benefit of the doubt. Don’t rip it out.

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

First they say Maccabees can’t be scripture because it’s not prophecy. Then they say that prophecy tears down the body of Christ. They can’t even get their story straight.

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

Well then, consider yourself to have rejected the gospel, because Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross atoned for all the dead men who died in history past. Good grief. Read your New Testament. Also, a resurrected person is not dead. Judas Maccabees had the resurrection in mind.

Why does Genesis 1 and 2 contradict?

Genesis 1 says plants were made before man. But Genesis 2 says that when man was made, plants didn’t exist yet. Uh oh! We have a contradiction here! So, should we rip chapter 1 out of our Bibles, or chapter 2? Or should we just remove Genesis entirely from our Bibles? Certainly we shouldn’t...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

The book of 2 Maccabees talks all about the resurrection. When Hebrews 11:35 talks about a better resurrection, it references the tortured men in 2 Maccabees chapters 6 and 7. Clearly the author of Hebrews was getting some of his doctrine about the Resurrection from the book of 2 Maccabees...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

I find it really appalling that I have to spell this out for people: Resurrected people are not dead people. They’ve been resurrected.

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

The Old Testament makes it clear that an animal sacrifice (under the Old Covenant) can atone for the sins of a living person. But you’re saying that an animal sacrifice cannot atone for the sins of a dead person. However, look at what it says: “After taking a collection from each man, he sent...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

Hold on a second. We’re in the New Covenant. Maccabees lived in the Old Covenant. If you have a brother who died today, and he rejected Christ in this lifetime, the New Testament says that there no longer remains any other sacrifice. If he rejected Jesus’ sacrifice, then there is not another...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

You say “it wasn’t done for someone else.” Really? Let’s see if scripture supports that… “So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

Ok, so let me get this straight. You’re saying that a sacrifice in the present was not able to atone for the sins of men who had died in the past? Well, then. Just what do you think Jesus did on the cross? As I understand it, Jesus paid for the sins of everyone who had died….past, present, and...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

Maccabees does not say that they paid money to atone for sins. It says that they paid money TO PROVIDE for a sin offering. The sin offering is mentioned in Leviticus 4. In other words, the money paid to purchase the animals. The animal sacrifices atoned for their sins. Don’t think that 2...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

I haven’t heard about that book. Sounds interesting. Maccabees was in the Greek Septuagint. Still is today. The Septuagint was created by Jews, and accepted by the early church, and accepted by many churches today. That’s why multiple early church councils declared Maccabees to be scripture...

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

Josephus was never included in anyone’s Bibles. No copy of the Septuagint ever contained Josephus. No church councils ever accepted Josephus as scripture. Your argument is ridiculous and you know it. Maccabees has lots of support. There’s very good reasons to believe Maccabees belongs in the Bible.

If the prophecies in Daniel 8 cannot be understood without Maccabees, then doesn’t that prove Maccabees belongs in the Bible?

Daniel 8 prophesies Alexander the Great will defeat the Persians, and His Kingdom divide up into 4 sections. That’s fulfilled in 1 Maccabees chapter 1. We cannot understand the prophecies in Daniel 8 without the history recorded in 1 Maccabees. This is clear evidence that Maccabees is a part of...
