Not much. Went to a soccer field at 6 and we ate fries, but for the rest kids entertain themselves today and mom is in a rotten mood as always with her stupid crushes that always crush. I hope for them this was the last one. Poor kids.

Why crush it? There's always the option to keep hope and faith alive and thank the Lord for the second, third, (hundredth) chances He gives us, His children, at happiness and getting things right. :friends:

Did the pondering bring up anything interesting?

Oh yes, figuring cable runs and how to break through walls. Been reading about vapor gaps before rebuilding walls.

Today I burned a load of the laths I pulled down.

Rewired a switch that the genius before us got horribly wrong. Along the way found the other stuff they messed up. Tweaking a switch shouldn't take four hours, but at least now it works and another switch is grounded.

Took a break from home destruction to mow the lawn. Every time i mow I mentally figure how much the mower's effective cost is, now I'm not paying someone to mow for me.

Went to Chinatown and got a three tier bamboo steamer, chinese spices and some chicken feet to make a gelatin broth. I left the whole bag on the bench where I had sat for awhile. Looks like I'll have to make another trip to replace my purchases sometime soon :grumble:

Probably a combination of fiberglass and foam.
I had to google what vapour gap even was  but what I read was that the tops of the walls especially needed to be sealed so as not to create havok later on. I thought it said that was just for basements because of the cold air condensing when it came in contact with the warmer house? Most of my house renos were hands-on too sometimes using an old sears catalog to find the right fixtures ^_^ somehow it got done.

It's somewhat more complicated given the advent of air conditioning. Essentially water vapor moves from where it's warm and damp to where it's cool and dry. Historically that meant it moved from the inside to the outside. The trouble is now that air conditioning means that in a lot of areas the two sides switch (in the summer it's warm and moist outside and cool and dry inside; in the winter the sides switch). The crucial element appears to be to make sure you don't have anything that's impermeable to water vapor, such that it can get out, and to have gaps so that if it does condense it doesn't end up running down the inside of drywall or some such. If we end up with a bit of water in the basement that's no big deal, we get that during really heavy rainstorms anyway.

I'm going to talk to a friend who has a lot of experience in construction to figure out just what I need to do to make sure I don't end up creating an opportunity to do this renovation all over again...

I did a ton of outside work and the fresh air has made me tired. I do think I'll be in bed before 8 but I wish the neighbors would all stop mowing their lawns.
