I guess the same question could be asked of a lawyer, who might typically argue: My client instructs me to say he didn't do it, (etc.). I guess in some jobs the essence is conveying ideas accurately, not the moral content of particular pleas and representations.Let's say hypothetically the message you are sending is wrong, have you thought about that? If you are before the judgment throne and asked why, what would be your 'concrete' response. The reply founded on faith and scriptures. If you were wrong, would you accept responsibility for all those you influenced? Just hypothetically.
With a tattoo's message, I guess a lot depends on the particular content of the message. A Christian with a faith based message in his or her tattoo would however probably have a far greater sense of identification with a message of witness before God and men, than a lawyer might have as regards his clients' pleas and representations.
