I appreciate this explanation, as it goes far beyond the idea of merely having a "sin nature". Somehow that idea suggests that there is an age (never stated) where sin enters into our life, where we become aware of it, or it gains a foothold. Prior to that, there is some presumption of innocence. That may never be admitted by those that hold the view until later, when one might suggest a small child is a sinner (i.e. 'original sin'). Then the gloves come off - "How can you say that innocent child is a sinner?! How dare you?!"

I would disagree, though, in saying that original sin is an "inclination or propensity". I think that softens things a bit. Perhaps these would be better explained by your examples of actualized sin. Original sin (imo) is an inherited sin (through Adam) we can do nothing about.
Everyone is born with original sin if you dont elieve that try taking a toy from a child or sit them with another child and watch how they dont want that child playing with their things, that is just one example.

but the lord JESUS HAS already done some thing about that causing us to die and be reborn a new creation in him and thus , by his blood shed, setting us free from the which was that we might now walk in that which IS righteousness.
judging what is sin by the standard of what offends one another is just unrighteous judgements .
if you stand before the lord in humility and he forgives your sin.. then to who can an accusation against you be made when the highest authority there is has pardoned you already ?thus you stand before him sinless..let us settle the matter," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

the holy Spirit in us cannot sin neither can he lead us to sin ,,so if we live to walk in him obediently nither will we go into sin .
but if we knowingly disobey him we strive against him(which is a tiresome drudgery of slavehood to sin) and have already sinned by our disobedience .
but to do that, we must HAVE the holy Spirit .
i begin to suspect that many who say they cannot stop doing a thing they KNOW to be sin .. dont yet have the holy Spirit .. they have not yet repented they have not yet been born again of water and of Spirit and thus cannot grasp nor enter into to the freedom others have come to know and walk in .they stand at the cross but it is not yet applied to their heart and life for at the cross the old nature of adam is crucified and put to death .

he just reworded it to inherited .. this we are born with in the flesh but we become guilty of our OWN sin the first time we break gods perfect law of life . we speak of the 10 absolutes of his standard of righteousness .

You can begin to suspect all you want but when did you become God to look into people and know if they have faith because that's something that no one seems to have but our triune God so how about you share this special gift or reveal to us how you came to behold such a wonder as to be able to see who has faith and who does not? This is truly a miracle! Yes, I say this all in a sarcastic tone because I despise those types of people who look down on others never knowing how our Lord is working in people and they feel so self-righteous thinking how well they're doing in staying away from sin and OOOH LOOK AT ME AND HOW GOD LOVES ME BECAUSE I STOPPED A CERTAIN SIN. It kinda makes me look back to the point in scripture Luke 18:11-13

The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like the other men—swindlers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and pay tithes of all that I receive.’ But the tax collector stood at a distance, unwilling even to lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’…

Original sin is a whole another topic and deserves a thread of its own.

never said i did .. you do like to post AT people instead of the topic dont you .why so upset

if you have repented of sin then you no longer return to it ,so you have nothing to be concerned about .your at peace with God your reconciled to him a dn walking in obedience with him ..are you not ?
judge yourself .,no one else is .
deal with the topic and stop making your every post about ME .

if people tel me (and they have here often ) they cant stop sinning a sin they KNOW to be sin.., then they are telling me they are still living in sin. i made no judgement . They said it out loud ,i made no accusation, they offered the confession , i passed no judgement, but encourage all the same -Jesus came to set you free so you dont HAVE to continue in that sin ..
i repeat the good news .. not the good theory .
any one who actually desire to BE FREE OF THEIR SIN will leap toward this god news that JESUS can set you FREE . he did it for me he can Do it for all .

as i have testified so very many times
i was a slave to a repeated cycle of sin
thinking i must be forever coming back to the cross to be forgiven again and again
but (short version) then the lord Jesus showed me he had set me free and i could STOP doing it now .. so i listened and guess what ..the sinful habits stopped
not for a day or a week or a month or a year .. but for life
because he gave me a new life to live .

this IS the GOSPEL this is not a form of godliness but it is THE POWER of God wrought through the cross .
this this the truth of the power of the lord JESUS in whom I believe and follow ..

there seems to be some other false version of jesus out there who cant do this .. i dont follow that one ..whats the use of a god who cant keep his promises .cant save, cant deliver cant heal .. not much use that one .

You weren't forgiven because you stopped your sin.

You were forgiven because Jesus, before you were ever born, took your sin to the cross and it was forgiven. God accepted the sacrifice for all your sins.

Then you were born. It's a BOY! You committed sins and the Holy Spirit showed you your sins and how wrong they were. He turned you to Him by giving you a Savior that you could believe in. You confessed your sins and were repentant and the forgiveness that was first won at the cross for those sins were given to you. It wasn't your repentance that caused the sins to be forgiven. God uses repentance to turn us to Him and then he showers us in forgiveness. It isn't your obeying that rewards you with forgiveness. These things may seem minor to you but are so important to know so that you don't turn your actions into what's saving you but the Savior instead.

OBVIOUSLY..... if he became SINLESS, then he would not NEED to be forgiven. This is just PART of the absurdity that results from twisting, entangling, blending, confusing Law and Gospel, sanctification and justification, self and God that is the hallmark of our friends theology.

The reality that our friend can't list one - not even one - perfect Christian reveals the absurdity of his soteriology. In and of itself, this may not SEEM too dangerous (just silly) but in reality, it DESTROYS Christianity.... it rejects and opposes the Gospel, rendering Christ a bad joke and unnecessary, it is an EFFORT to promote the soteriology of modern Judaism, Islam and some forms of Hinduism (God HELPS us become such that doesn't need mercy, God HELPS us save ourselves) by TRYING to add some Christian words to make it sound Christian (but, as we've noticed, often not even Christian WORDS are used - 0ften there's no mention (however meaningless) of Christ, the Cross, the Blood or forgiveness. Just self. Ever gooder and gooder, ever with out need for a SAVIOR just help and time.

You were forgiven because Jesus, before you were ever born, took your sin to the cross and it was forgiven. God accepted the sacrifice for all your sins.

Ah, the Gospel. The glorious, beautiful, wonderful Gospel. It is what makes Christianity Christianity. And is what some modern American "Evangelicals" are so repelled by, so quick to denounce and reject. It IS shocking. We're use to this from some Catholics and Mormons (although, IMO, less radically) but to see it SO boldly from those who CALL themselves "Protestant" is deeply troubling.

Then you were born. It's a BOY! You committed sins and the Holy Spirit showed you your sins and how wrong they were. He turned you to Him by giving you a Savior that you could believe in. Amen! Keep stating the Gospel!!!!! Just keep repeating it!!! And we all can pray that the Spirit uses it to destroy this attack on Christ the Savior and instead embrace the beautiful, wonderful, glorious Gospel of Jesus. He CLAIMS I'm again on his "ignore" list so it's up to others to KEEP ON presenting the Gospel, defending the Gospel against this attack on it. Mind you, this is the same poster who attacked Christ's divnity in his promotion of Nestorianism, and now his attack on the Gospel.

Josiah said:
What is the Law?

The Law is the will of God - flowing from His absolute perfection and justice. It is, in essence, that we be as He is - not in terms of essence but character.

Psalm 51:5 "I was sinful at birth"

Genesis 8:21, "Every inclination of man's heart is evil from childhood."

Romans 5:12, "Sin entered the world through one man's sin, and death through sin, and therefore death came to all men for all have sinned."

First John 3:4, "Sin is lawlessness"

Romans 3:12, "There is no one who does good, not even one."

Mark 10:18, "There is none who is good but God exclusively."

First John 1:10, "If we claim we have no sin, we make God a liar and His word is not in us."

What does the Law mandate?

Essentially, that our character be identical to His.

Matthew 5:48, "You must be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."

1 Peter 1:16, "You must be holy even as God in heaven is holy."

John 15:12, "Love all people just as I (Jesus) first loved you."

Ephesians 4:32, "forgiving one another, just as God in Christ first forgave you."

First John 2:6, "Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did."

Philippians 2:5, "You must have the same attitude that Christ did."

Historically, Christians have spoken of ORIGINAL and ACTUALIZED sin.....

Original: The inclination, the propensity, that DISEASE that means we are self-centered, egotistical, self-serving, rebellious. It's what is in our hearts that LEADS to sins, it is the root of sin. When a man shoots his boss, the "problem" didn't start with the bullet entering the guys' chest, it began with something deep in the heart of the shooter - which LEAD to the chain of things that ultimately meant his pointed his gun and pulled the trigger. If I have a cold, I may sneeze. The sneeze is not the disease, it flows from the disease (which I may have even if I'm not sneezing at that microsecond; even if I take enough pills to never sneeze I still have a cold).

Actualized: These are the symptoms. They may be our thoughts or our words or our deeds. They may be known (observed) or not (even the sinner may not be aware of them). They may be thoughts or words of deeds we SHOULD have had but didn't (being imperfect)... they may be thoughts or words or deeds we should NOT have had but did (being sinful).

There are different kinds of Law in the OT

Moral Law: Governs behaviors and our relationships to God, each other and our environment. This still applies.

Ceremonial Law: Governs all the ceremonial aspects of the Old Covenant such as the building of the Ark, clothes priests are to wear, not eating certain foods, observing certain Old Covenant festivals, etc. This does not apply.

Civil Law: Governs the state affairs of the ancient kingdom of the Jews, the divine mandates to the kings vis-a-vis political and international relations. This ceased when Israel fell in 722 BC and Judea fell in 587 BC.

That's not the problem. It's just like with sickness. If you never heard that you're already healed by His stripes you won't take that blessing you already have in the heavenlies. I was born again and filled with the Spirit, but then I went to apreacher here who got 2000 people in the Kingdom with a small group in 2 years on the street. When I came to his Bible study, WOW! That's like the widow with the tiny bottle of oil who poored it in all those empty vessels. Never felt such Presence of the Holy Spirit, so strong. He put a glass in a bowl of water and said baptized in the Spirit is this, not just being a bit filled. But that's one moment and when I then did nothing, didn't share it with others, didn't pray fervently for souls to get saved, I just got lukewarm again and just on that other forum all that backbite atmosphere, couldn't stand it anymore. The whole problem is not praying and not knowing who you are in Christ. If you always believe and confess that you're a sinner and that you sin and you expect yourself to do the same sin again in half an hour after you just said sorry, then you also act like that. I repented and kicked some demons out. Now I feel again that I abide in Him.

Jesus is awesome for getting you to stop your sin although with some things it takes longer because we know God has a different timing don't we? Look how long it took God to deliver the Savior to us so we see his timing is not our timing so what really really irks me are people who look down their noses at others who are still being worked on by God. Keep your eyes on your path don't look at their path and judge thinking you know what's going on behind the scenes because you really have no clue.

The interpretation that the "old covenant" was faulty and that God had to institute a new one means that a perfect God created something with fault within it showing that He Himself is capable of failure. Moreover, if He had to change His mind and create a new path, what's to say He can't or won't do it again? Our conclusions must remain consistent with His eternal perfection and unchanging character.

Who are you responding to since I don't see someone talking about faulty covenants.

your getting it ...
but one point .. it takes as long as we resist ,when we surrender and no longer strive against him ..we enter his rest .
he says NOW is the day of salvation if you will not harden your hearts ..etc
Gods timing is now, for he has already done everything required to make that freedom active in our lives al we need simply do is listen and follow what he tells us to do :)

I'm getting it? How about you getting the fact that it's God who brings us to faith and keeps us in faith instead of giving us law like you keep on doing because giving the law isn't showing what God is doing since He is the one saving us. You just keep on trying though and maybe someday you'll get it that it's God and not you who is bringing you into salvation. We can only listen because He gives us ears to hear and we can only follow because He's leading us and guiding us. It's not us us us like you're promoting all the time since you think that God only started something but you have to finish it and that's not the case. I can't do my part but rely on my Lord to save me but you just keep on looking to yourself and you'll see one day that it's God doing all those things that you're "working" to achieve for your salvation. Go on, dare you to look at Him.

Sins are actions, thoughts, words, that offend God. Sins vary in seriousness. The state of mind of the one who sins makes a difference to the wickedness of a sin. Sins that are willingly and wilfully done in the full knowledge that they offend God and with the purpose of offending God are more serious than the same actions, words, or thoughts without the wilful intent of offending God.

Yes, there are people who seem to be very godly. Give them time though and you'll see that they make mistakes/errors/sins just like the rest of us. I haven't met a person yet who is sinless except for Jesus. We even see it here (sins) on this site even though some are in big denial ;)
aah you just lumped error and mistake together with sin .
when we speak of sin we speak of doing that which we know is disobedience to God.
making an error or mistake is not a willful act of disobedience.

i mean wow. if people walk about thinking every little thing they dont get perfect is some sin then they live in a demonic oppression and need deliverence..
unambiguos sin is to knowingly act in opposition to God.to know what is right and choose to not do it.

if god s
ys make a cake and yku do but you burn it..thsts a mistake..an error.he knows in your heart your hearts intent.
thats not sin .that is learning and instruction and correction..
if he teaches you how to avoid burning it.but you ignore his wisdom..he will admonish you and even tell yoh off.. still he knows the intent of your heart.

BUT..if he tells you to make a cake but you ,even though you know what he said to do.go to the movies instead.. that..is sin .for it is simple unambiguous disobedience and it stems from rebellion.keep doing that and he will chastise you..refuse to stop.and he will let you go do your sin.and when he returns he will shut the door and say..i do not know you..you are a doer of iniquity..sin.

but to say every unintended error mistake is sin risks an ovrrload of false condemnation.

sin is not fickle
unintended error.
adam did not accidently take and eat the fruit..
he knew..and did it any way.

lets be extreme and unambiguous... men dont acvidently walk down the stret trip up ,bump into a strange woman and commit adultary .they know its wrong but they persue the action..
they dont click on porn by mistake (liar liar if they say they do).. they may duddenly see something which yhen intices them but it can only intice them if they already want it in thier hesrt..if they dont want it..they will instantsniodly SHUN EVIL..

any way..the point being..their is a HUGE differencd between mistake and error..and SIN against GOD. one ,is not the other.

(edit this later..txt is way to small on this phn)

Wrong.

In Numbers 15:22-24 (just to give one of many examples), we are told to repent of sin EVEN WHEN it is UNINTENTIONAL.

You have WATERED DOWN the Law (and eliminated the Gospel) so badly as to make it pretty meaningless. NOWHERE in Scripture does it say something is okay if we didn't KNOW it was wrong, we didn't MEAN to do it. And NOWHERE does it say sins are only things done.

What you propose not only is unbiblical, it's not even reasonable - it's not even how things work in the fallen, sinful world among sinners! Image you driving 90 MPH down a road with a 60 MPH speed limit. A friendly man in blue stops you and notes that you were going 90 in a max 60 zone, 30 MPH over the speed limit. And you say, "But no one TOLD me the speed limit was 60 so it's not 60! And I didn't INTEND to go 30 MPH over the speed limit so I wasn't going 30 MPH over the speed limit!" Good luck with your view there..... It won't even work with cop, much less with a perfect, just God. You are obsessed with the Law - but the "Law" you propose is so watered down, so silly, so unbiblical and unreasonable as to be laughable.

There are different kinds of Law in the OT
.....
