It was 23 degrees outside with a cold wind. Perfect weather for a walk. Didnt fancy walking in the mountains in these temperatures - managing my body heat is really hard because I work up a sweat powering up the hills and then freeze going down the north side, only to sweat on the blast back up and freeze again heading back down. At least the final descent is surrounded by trees which usually breaks up the wind. So today I went for one of my longer walks around town. I had considered extending my 8 mile loop to make it more like 10 miles but as I approached the relevant junction I was feeling the cold so decided to stick to the slightly shorter version.
I need to look at the map in more detail and figure out the length of each individual road section, so I can come up with a variety of routes of longer lengths. Maybe some day I'll spend the day walking the local roads and chalking up lots of miles. It's a good way to cover distance, although doesn't give the intensity of the workout the mountains offer.
