Getting ready to drive up into Herndon for a two hour Reformation Sunday service.

I'll pray for you ... really I will.

I'll also be only slightly naughty here while you're gone :p

Forget it. I got lost and drove back after an hour and a half on the road.

I am sorry.

I did pray, but it wasn't specifically about finding the place.

But God did grant you safety on the roads and you're back with us. I am sorry though that you missed the Oktober fest and the church service.

I did try not to be too naughty :)

No, mate, I went to Divine Service this morning and the Oktoberfest lunch that followed it ( in fact, I had seconds before I had the apple strudel dessert). I received the message about the Reformation being about freedom from the bondage of sin, as earlier I received corporate Absolution and later I received the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. The Reformation Service in Herndon was going to be a district- wide service. in fact, even if I'd made it to Good Shepherd, I might not have found a parking space. God has been very good to me today. :)

An updated one, no doubt. Google maps simply don't work.

Nooo never trust Google maps!! My husband and I were using that through his phone to try to find our way someplace because we forgot to grab my GPS and it told us that something right down the road from where we were was going to take 3 hours because it wanted to continuously loop through the expressways (get off ramp, get on ramp, all that nonsense). Don't trust it!! LOL

I never had trouble with Google Maps. For most of my navigation needs I use the car's satnav but it doesn't have traffic updates so for longer distance driving I use Google Maps. One time it saved me a huge delay. It was before I bought the car with navigation in it, and ordinarily I'd expected a drive to basically pick up the interstate and stay on it but Google suddenly routed me off the interstate through some random succession of villages. I later found out there was a huge delay on the interstate and Google had basically saved me sitting in stationary traffic for 2-3 hours. Which was good, given I had just over 10 hours of driving that day without adding that kind of delay.

I'm getting ready to go to work so I can make up for the hours I missed yesterday. I'm really quite eager to get on with it.

Hauled a load of wood back from the hardware store. It was interesting trying to fit four pieces of wood that were basically 8'x2' into the back of a small SUV, then drive them home without ruining anything. It worked, kind of. Thankfully my wife was in the passenger seat so she could help steady them and be a second pair of eyes if I needed to see more than I could see past the sheets of wood. Then hauling them upstairs was an experience - each one up two flights of stairs without tripping over the cat.

Hauling that wood around is now reminding me of muscles I forgot I even had. I can hardly wait until it's time to lay enough flooring to cover my entire attic. I suspect I'll be bribing a friend with some beer to come and help me haul it up the stairs...

This is really your new workout routine to get all buff, isn't it? :D

I'm debating on whether I want to turn on the furnace or not this morning. It's pretty chilly in here and I don't want to move to look at the thermostat yet.

Haha, it's an interesting idea. Sometimes it seems that the house is going to get me to shed a few pounds of spare fat. If nothing else the process of going up and down three flights of stairs at a time between the basement and the attic to do things like pull new cables keeps my Fitbit reporting some interesting numbers.

You can tell what I've been doing by looking at my floors count. If it's a lazy day I'll be at 10-15 or less. If I've been working on the house it will be more like 30-40. If I've been walking in the woods it will be 100+

I never activated my fitbit. It's the old clip on kind and maybe that's why. I think if I had a wristband one that I would wear it daily.

I have a Fitbit One. Most of the time I just clip it on my pocket and it just works. I tried a Fitbit Charge and desperately wanted to like it but the brutal truth was that I hated absolutely everything about it. It was made of a nasty plastic that stuck to my wrist in all the wrong ways, it was bulky in the wrong places so wasn't comfortable to wear, I hated the fact I had to specifically flick my wrist to get it to come on and tell me the time, I hated the way it kept lighting up when I turned over in bed and the light bothered me, and I hated the fact that this lump of nasty plastic took the place on my wrist where I really wanted to put a nicer watch. I also hated the shoddy quality control - when I decided I hated mine I gave it to my wife, who had gone through two of them in less than a year. Fitbit were good about replacing them but the fact they had to replace two of them in a year showed up their pathetic quality control. Then the one that was mine started to come apart within a few months. By then it was more than a year since we'd registered the first one so all Fitbit would do was offer 25% off a new device (i.e. the same price as I could buy it just about anywhere online). As I said to them, when their track record is that three of them lasted an average of less than five months I'm really not interested in giving them another $120-150 in the hope that a fourth device would last any longer.

Since my One works more or less as expected (barring a periodic need to reset it) we got my wife a One and I took the Charge watches apart. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the bits, maybe build a watch case out of brass or something and see if I can make them into something prettier. Another project to get to when I have more time and inclination....
