It's curious to see that while individual nations are seeking freedom from larger states (e.g. Scotland wanting independence, Catalonia, the former Yugoslavia, the former Czechoslovakia, the former USSR etc) politicians still think that creating superstates like the EU is a good idea.
It's also curious to think of a country like Scotland wanting independence, and then also wanting to sign up to a superstate like the EU that will give it a lot of centrally managed rules and regulations.
