It's curious to see that while individual nations are seeking freedom from larger states (e.g. Scotland wanting independence, Catalonia, the former Yugoslavia, the former Czechoslovakia, the former USSR etc) politicians still think that creating superstates like the EU is a good idea.

It's also curious to think of a country like Scotland wanting independence, and then also wanting to sign up to a superstate like the EU that will give it a lot of centrally managed rules and regulations.

I've decided to take an interest in it. If a people want to strike out on their own, they should be given rein to do so. I'd support Scottish independence, too. Small peoples shouldn't be assimilated into a neighboring society just because that society's bigger than theirs.

We are the English, your culture will adapt to service ours. Resistance is futile.

Enjoy it as long as it lasts til we take over and force everyone to normally speak Dutch and adapt to our superior culture and a forced civilization course that immigrants already are forced to take if they want to live here and no Santa nonsense, 5 december Sinterklaas with the black petes who put you in a bag and bring you to Spain if you don't behave well.

We always say: act normal, cause then you act crazy enough.
Lol the comments. One totally serious guy who gives those courses says: its a citizenship course and this is done terribly. I can do it much better.

Awesome Star Trek reference! Unfortunately, it's a very succinct summary of the attitude that was held by the British from the early seventeenth to the early twentieth centuries. All for the Old Empire.

It still is an attitude held by many Englishmen in the UK.
