Went to get one of my clocks checked over. It's one of my more intricate clocks, sufficiently so that I'd rather talk to a professional than work on it myself. Sadly the intermittent fault was nowhere to be seen and all the professional could really tell me was that there was no sign of anything wrong with it at all. He thought maybe there's a minor fault on one of the wheels.

Then I went to a clock and watch museum which was fascinating. Surprisingly the drive home was fairly painless, given I set off about 5pm I was expecting to hit major traffic but only experienced one fairly short holdup.

I'm going to read a little bit of The Lutheran Difference and, depending upon how I feel, I might even be strong enough to go to work tomorrow. It's very nigh bedtime.

Testing my mongrel cyclonic separator now it's got the reinforcement ring in the trash can. It held up really well, it sucks up the cellulose much more readily than before and with the extra suction it doesn't jam up as often. Since I've only got 1" pipe to actually suck things up and it fits into the 90-degree bend with an adaptor that fits inside the pipe (i.e. restricts the pipe a little) sometimes a slightly larger chunk will cause it to jam, but so far it's doing pretty well. I sucked up about 12" depth in the trash can of assorted scraps the hand shovel left behind , including some small patches of small stones (previously it didn't have enough suction to do anything more than suck them part way up the pipe, only for them to fall back out again).

Now I know where I need to run cables to get the light fixtures sorted out I can make a start on that. I think I'm going to use a couple of junction boxes so I can get one into place without having to worry about moving all the insulation to get at it again to run the next stage of the cable. It's not quite how I'd prefer to do it, but it will work and means I can start making progress more quickly. Now I just need to figure out where the exact center of the room is, so I can cut a hole in the ceiling.

Went for a walk in the woods... and took in a local vista I really like. I say "local", it turned my six mile walk into a nine mile walk but it was worth it. Took some pictures and taunted our recent house guests with a barrage of posts over social media showing them what they were missing out on.

Now I'm somewhere between "I should take a shower" and "Taking a shower involves effort". So for now I'm sitting in my recliner.

pilots flying planes?

Did you see Snakes on a Plane It was shockingly bad. I saw it because a friend took me to see it expecting it to be bad and it was worse than expected.

I read about Catalonia's declaration of independence from Spain, Scotland's support of it and the rest of Europe ( not least Spain itself) getting bent out of shape because of it.

I think Scotland ought to leave the UK. It does them no real good being in it. They'd be better off as an independent nation in the EU (if they want to be) than as a subservient brow-beaten part of England's empire. Catalonia would probably be better off out of Spain too.

I've decided to take an interest in it. If a people want to strike out on their own, they should be given rein to do so. I'd support Scottish independence, too. Small peoples shouldn't be assimilated into a neighboring society just because that society's bigger than theirs.
