How can I kindly tell a friend

The friend who only calls when they want something isn't a friend. If you want to help them out have at it but maybe it's time to stop thinking of them as a friend.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

It's supposed to rain all day here, so chances are I'll end up getting some exercise in the hall at the church. Until the air quality issues I'd forgotten how dull that could be...

    Is it morally wrong

It's really up to the individual. Years ago I knew a guy in his 80s who visited his wife in the nursing home every single day, without fail. She had dementia sufficiently advanced she didn't even know who he was. But as he put it, he knew who she was and he visited her until the day she died.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

My suggested workout today was "recovery", half an hour at a pace that's a fast walk for me. I didn't want to do that, so went for a 10k, although I kept the pace well down from personal best territory. I also took a short break to get some water about half way around the loop, because it was...

When being terminated from a job,

If I was being fired I'd let the company find out in its own time that they really shouldn't have fired me. If I was being laid off it would depend on how well the company had treated me, and how easy it would be for them to find someone else to do the important thing. The people who truly...

    Point out problems

It's good if you can suggest a solution but I wouldn't say it's essential. Personally I'm wary of pointing out too many problems without at least suggesting a partial solution, because doing that can rapidly turn into just griping at everything in sight without offering anything to improve it.

    A dinner invitation

It's really not that hard. Inviting adults doesn't inherently mean inviting their offspring. We have friends with small children. Some of them behave impeccably, others less so. When we invite the parents for dinner the kids stay with a sitter. It's assumed the kids aren't joining us unless we...

    Not my job!

... except if you do too much of that you end up not doing the job you're paid to do, and get fired.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Not really much of a workout pulling down another small section of lath and plaster wall and cleaning up the debris but, for what it's worth, it tipped me over 10,000 steps.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Another base level run, although today my legs just didn't want to go that slowly and I ended up averaging about a minute per mile faster than my target pace. My watch rated it as a tempo intensity rather than base, which doesn't really surprise me athough it didn't feel like it was much of an...

    Not leaving a tip

If the service is very bad. I can think of very few occasions when I left either zero tip or an insulting tip. Once was in a hotel with a restaurant attached. The waitress couldn't have been less interested. When our food came she literally dropped the plates on the table and had turned away by...

    A serious question ...

Assuming, of course, they get to make an informed decision. Some might argue that sending your child to school isn't providing implicit consent for whatever the school decides to do without telling you about it.

Zuckerberg admits taking down info about covid that turns out to be true

The government lied and encouraged others to lie? Who'd have thought it? From the article, Zuckerberg claimed that the "experts" waffling on the subject undermined trust. He's wrong on that - it doesn't undermine trust, it practically destroys it. Next time something like this comes around how...

    Not my job!

I suppose it depends on how far outside your responsibility it falls, how much work you have to do and how much you like your boss.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

AQI is below 100 so that means I can pretty much ignore the charts unless the air feels bad. Today's run was 45 minutes at a base pace, and part way through it rained so I got the chance to cool off without having to stop to cool off. I didn't manage to keep my pace down as well as I have for...

    As you have gotten older

By the same argument I should "be able to" have the right to self-determination and kill my next door neighbor because they really annoy me. If I choose to kill them I must answer to God. Shouldn't the law of the land have something to say about it? I think the trouble with abortion...

    A serious question ...

Biblical content and societal norms aren't necessarily anything to do with each other, so it's hard to figure exactly what you're trying to ask here. Furthermore "people in drag" could mean something very overtly sexual or something entirely suited to a family friendly evening. When I was a...

    Like-minded people

Probably at a club or evening class that caters to whatever group counts as "like minded". If you're a gay, Democrat-voting woodworker who likes to hike and eat sushi you can probably find a local Democrat group, a local woodworking club, a local hiking club, a sushi restaurant and maybe even a...
