    Respect has to be earned?

It has as much to do with your question as your question had to do with my post that you quoted. But, you know, whatever.

    Respect has to be earned?

Because you quoted me and asked a direct question.

    As you have gotten older

If anything I've become more libertarian. I just want the government to butt out and leave me alone.

    Respect has to be earned?

You can lack respect for someone without disrespecting them.

    Lying to you or not

If it's someone I know the chances are they'll slip sooner or later and it will unravel. If it's someone I don't know then it only matters if I'm relying on what they tell me. If it's a politician I know when they are lying because their lips are moving.

    NOT having children

As with anything that's a mixed blessing you miss the good and the bad. My wife and I like the freedom to do what we want and not have to worry about school schedules or endlessly driving kids all over the place. At the same time we miss out on seeing them grow and ticking off milestones - we...

    Assembly required

If you're talking about buying things that come flat-packed I honestly don't remember. I don't buy that sort of thing very often. If you're talking things that had to be assembled in general the last thing I built was probably a wall. I took down a stud wall because the studs were facing the...

    USA Biden falls on stage

But I'm not Trump and I'm not Biden, and I'm not (yet) beholden to the special interests. Maybe that will change if I get elected....

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Another round of sprint repeats. Today my legs just wouldn't give me the power to get to a full-on sprint pace so I had to make do with a slightly slower surge, so I made them a little longer. I think I got 42 sprints into an 8-mile loop, even if the last couple could only loosely be described...

    USA Biden falls on stage

If he's ousted we end up with Kringey Kamala taking over. Maybe "move along, nothing to see here" really is good advice...

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

Unless I drink lots of coffee it doesn't seem to have a lot of effect on me. At one of our local cafes they do bottomless coffee with breakfast and I've found that after about the fourth or fifth cup I really feel like I need to stop drinking coffee.

    Respect has to be earned?

We can love someone without necessarily respecting them.

    Job-posting red flags

So much depends on the field of work. In a professional field I'd expect an idea of the salary range upfront. I'm really not interested in spending time researching a company and interviewing for a job only to find the salary is a joke. It's all very well saying it's "competitive" but that...

    USA Biden falls on stage

True, whatever people might think of Trump he doesn't hide away like Biden and, despite a media clearly hostile to him, there's a remarkable lack of footage of him tripping over his own feet.

    USA Biden falls on stage

Vote for me! I have the dual advantage of both Not Being Trump and Not Being Biden. What more could you ask for in a candidate?

    USA Biden falls on stage

Definitely, hence my comment about looking at the overall pattern rather than getting too caught up with an individual situation. One situation is easy to explain away. I'm nowhere near senile (that's my claim and I'm sticking to it) but every once in a while I lose my words or trip over my own...

    USA Biden falls on stage

I suspect you agree with the second point too (the bit about there being plenty of evidence he should retire)? I sometimes think it's unhelpful to focus too much on minor things as if each and every one represented some kind of smoking gun of unsuitability for a position. The man stumbled over...

    USA Biden falls on stage

This sort of thing can be hard to call. I think there's plenty of evidence that Biden is past the age he should have retired. That said it doesn't necessarily help to focus on every little thing as "evidence" - many of us trip over our own feet every once in a while.
