    Trump Harris Debate?

I didn't watch it, I'm not really that interested. A while back (shortly before Biden dropped out) I was talking with a guy about the candidates and he made the point that Biden performs badly in debates but the president doesn't necessarily need to be a good debater. Whatever our opinions of...

    Flash Drives

They can be handy for backups. Aside from that I seldom use them. I have a load of them kicking around. They can also be handy if you have an operating system update that breaks the network, or some other technical glitch that makes networking impractical. And if you're wanting to transfer data...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

That seems like a long way to go to church. Sometimes you can tell where Amish church is going to be if an oversized buggy shows up at one particular house. Years ago I was talking to an Amish man and he was telling me a little bit about their church. He showed me a buggy loaded with benches...

    Flying with pets

My cat struggles with a 15 minute drive to the vet. I can't imagine how he'd cope with spending hours in the car going to the airport, then waiting in the endless lines, then enduring a flight (I assume his ears would pop much like ours do, but he wouldn't know why and wouldn't know what to do...

    Flying with pets

I honestly can't imagine subjecting an animal to the stress of a flight.

Ways you mend a broken heart?

Time. More or less of it, depending on the cause. And express grief in an appropriate way, or it will never heal.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

This thread kinda died. My suggested workouts for the last several days have been either "rest" or very light runs. Today I decided to tick off the month's long run challenge so ignored the suggestion to do 30 minutes at a tediously slow pace and did a 10-mile run instead. Today was a really...

Foods to take to shut ins?

We've typically used cheap disposable plastic containers and take food that's as ready to eat as we can manage. If it needs to be reheated you'd put it on a microwave-safe plate before heating it. I've heard of some people buying cheap crockery from thrift stores so they won't need it back...

Foods to take to shut ins?

I can't comment on shut-ins specifically but my wife and I have taken food to people recovering from surgery and to new parents. We usually take something that's easy to deal with, so either hot and ready to eat or something that can be microwaved to make it ready. We also take it in containers...

    Alexa gives different answers

It's not entirely clear why being "a woman of color" is a reason to vote for or against Kamala Harris. I thought we were supposed to be judging candidates on their merits and politics rather than their pigmentation.

    Switching from red meat...

My wife makes some good chicken meatballs. We've found that chicken thighs have a richer flavor than chicken breasts and are also cheaper. I'm not sure what it is about chicken breast meat that is considered so desirable, we often find it to be dry and lacking in flavor.

    Mail In Voting

When I voted in the city it was easy enough. The voting station was a 5-minute walk away and I don't think I ever had to wait more than a couple of minutes to get my ballot and go to a booth to mark it.

    Mail In Voting

From a party's perspective it's always handy if you can persuade dead people to turn out and vote for you.

    Labor Day weekend

We have a propane grill our friends gave to us about 9 years ago because they were upgrading it. In 9 years we've used it a grand total of..... never. Today we had burgers, but we cooked them on a regular stove. It's too much effort to haul the propane grill out and heat it up for the sake of...

Atheist asks you "Why should I believe?"

A lot depends on where that person is at the time. If someone is leaning towards thinking "there must be more than this" you'll want a different approach to someone who has never really considered whether there is anything more than this, which will be different again to someone who has...

    Bottled Water?

I use a Brita filter for drinking water. It makes a difference to the taste of the water, although describing a taste difference is difficult. At some point I want to get the plumbing updated and when that happens I want to put in a whole house filter, probably a softener, and maybe a reverse...

    Doomsday Bunker?

I've often considered what a bunker might look like, and just what kind of resources it would take to build and stock one. If you don't mind existing in a very small space it's probably not all that hard to do. The big question is how long you'd need to stay in it. It's all very well eking out...

    Pushy Christians

I can't blame the people who walk away from them in disgust. It really does nothing to further the actual mission of the church to try and shove things down peoples' throats. I always think of the young ruler who came to Jesus, Jesus told him what to do, and he walked away very sad. And then...

    Make your own coffee creamer?

That's probably not worth changing. My wife and I usually have a cup of coffee in the morning and then another in the afternoon - depending on the weather we either have a second hot coffee or a cold brew. If you're the only coffee drinker and you don't drink a lot it's probably not worth doing...
