    Bearing False Witness

Perhaps, although the person who doesn't believe in the Trinity may or may not claim to be a Christian at all. If they aren't claiming to be a Christian they probably don't care if something is against God. There's also the possibility that someone clicked the wrong button, in which case...

    Bearing False Witness

W What consequences would you expect for posting something on an internet forum? Are you bearing false witness against a neighbor by saying something about yourself that isn't true?

My cousin thinks a book he is reading is going to give him godlike powers.

You can make a wish without leaving your body. Kids do it at Christmas every year. If it was as simple as sending a wish and making it come true don't you think more people would be doing it? There are ways to bend reality to your will, and the Bible has specific rules against doing them...

    Thanksgiving Leftovers

We've finished off a couple of the dishes but still have a few bits left. We ate heartily on Thursday, took a break from it Friday and Saturday, then started to hit the leftovers on Sunday. Chances are turkey and cranberry sandwiches will feature on our lunch menu for a couple more days.

    Advent starts Nov 30, 2025

Advent makes no practical difference to me, so I suppose I'm ready for it. I did consider getting an adult advent calendar (maybe one with a sample of whisky or bourbon behind each door), but never got around to it so even today, when I'd open the first door, has no particular significance.

Why would an Atheist celebrate Advent?

How did we get from "atheist" to "hates Christianity"? Someone can doubt that God exists without hating Christianity. Whether we're talking about Christmas or Advent, does it really matter? Advent calendars are popular even if not as loaded with marketing as Christmas. Many people enjoy having...

Why would an Atheist celebrate Advent?

Is there any reason he shouldn't enjoy some festive lights? Given how many other festivals are around the same time, and the ongoing question of whether December 25 actually has anything to do with the birth date of Jesus Christ, and the silence of Scripture regarding any requirement to...

    Chariots of Fire

Elijah wasn't actually taken up into heaven by a chariot of fire. Towards the end of Elijah's time on earth he asked Elisha what he wanted, and Elisha asked for a double portion of his spirit. Elijah's words were that he asked a lot but if Elisha kept his eyes on his master when he was taken...

Does Satan give people gifts like God does?

Yes, but all of those things are presented with much prettier wrappers. If they weren't people wouldn't go for them.

USA Texas Governor Signs Bill Allowing Private Lawsuits Agst. Abortion Drug Providers

The trouble with this line of thinking is that however distasteful we might find a particular product range, for as long as it is legal for adults to consume it's very difficult to restrict it. If we seek specific legislation to align with our goals we can't be surprised if another group decides...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

A shorter run today, I covered five miles because I knew I had some other stuff to do that would chalk up the rest of the steps I needed. Usually I run four miles and walk the last mile and a bit, to get the extra steps. When I have enough stuff to do that I can be confident of filling the gap I...

My cousin thinks a book he is reading is going to give him godlike powers.

It could be talking about anything. Some of it works, much of it doesn't. The stuff that works comes with strings attached that aren't obvious from the beginning.

My cousin thinks a book he is reading is going to give him godlike powers.

Sometimes things can be revealed through divination - tarot cards, crystal gazing, scrying, general psychic abilities, there are a few ways.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Yesterday I planned a 4-mile gentle run, which typically means running fairly gently and taking a walk break if my pulse goes over a certain level. But after half a mile I caught up with one of the older guys from a local running club I know, so chatted with him as we ran. His pace is slower...

    Leaving money to your church

I haven't been at my current church for long enough to really think about it. At my previous church I made the specific decision not to leave them money in my will. The reason for that was simple - at the end of the year the standard procedure was that if there was money left over the church...

Does Satan give people gifts like God does?

As Frank said the use of the term "gift" here is maybe a little inappropriate given the strings that are attached. That aside, yes, there are definitely supernatural powers that can be tapped if someone is willing to pay the price. It's just that the price isn't listed upfront and everything...

    Church fundraising? Yay or Nay?

I'm not sure what point you're wanting to make here? If people know what they are going to get then no, it's not trickery. My point was that sometimes churches seem to feel the need to do whatever it takes to get people through the doors, and that isn't likely to lead to a good result. In the...

My cousin thinks a book he is reading is going to give him godlike powers.

This seems like the kind of thing that could be either natural, or divine, or demonic, depending on exactly what form it takes. Sometimes enhanced observation skills can make someone appear to be psychic. When I was learning to drive I remember one particular time when I was driving on a narrow...

My cousin thinks a book he is reading is going to give him godlike powers.

Even without the element of spiritual concern, which a non-believer will write off as us not accepting "their way" or whatever else they want to call it, a simple question is this, "does this even sound plausible?" If it was this simple, why isn't everybody doing it? If all you have to do to...
