    Church fundraising? Yay or Nay?

Are you saying that a church shouldn't do something like a car wash to raise money? If people within the church are offering a specific product or service I don't see why it shouldn't be used as a fundraiser. If people are coming to the church to let the teenagers wash their car to raise money...

    Question (from Contact Us)

This is something I've been discussing with one of our elders. At my church the prevailing view is that we have eternal security and that this person was always a Christian if they truly converted to Jesus at any point in their life. My view is the opposite, that we can walk away and do our own...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Another gentle (ish) 4-mile run with another mile or so of walking afterwards. My suggested workout was "recovery" but I struggle to run as slowly as that so I just ease off if my pulse goes up. I'm still finding I gravitate to a pace my watch clocks as "tempo" rather than "base" but I can live...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Yesterday was close, I ran 4 miles and walked the last mile and a bit again, but I guess my stride for the run was longer so I got home with about 8500 steps. It was about 11pm when I remembered I needed to check my step count and tip over 10000. I did, but the margin was the slimmest it's been...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

For me a rest day usually means a walk rather than a run. I've got 10000+ steps every day for nearly three years now

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Really badly disturbed night last night so I was happy to take an easier run today. 4 miles, then I walked the last mile or so for a cool down. No wind so I would have liked to go harder but I felt like my legs had very little to give.

The wind was very cold today, but I got my walk in anyway. It felt like a secondary workout playing with electrics in my house too, up and down stairs so many times it wasn't funny, and shifting flooring sheets around in the attic so I could get at the space to run a new cable.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

It's always interesting when the wind gusts and it's a constant effort to walk in a straight line because it's trying to blow me sideways off the road. Or when it's an effort to make any progress at all into a massive headwind. The gusts are supposed to be down to a mere 25mph today. I hope...

My cousin thinks a book he is reading is going to give him godlike powers.

What a book like that says will happen, and what will actually happen, are unlikely to be the same. If gaining access to everything we ever wanted was as simple as visualising a journey and pouring water over ourselves there wouldn't be many people struggling with poor health and poverty.

A walk today in howling winds. My weather app said the gusts were 43mph and I believe it.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Yesterday I didn't have time to run hard so did a gentle run. Today I had time and the wind stopped howling so I got to pace harder than I have in a while. Still a good bit slower than my PB pace but got a nice 10k in.

What if you could turn your body and clothes invisible? With your thoughts?

I'm not sure why I'd want to turn my clothes invisible. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why anyone around me would want me to turn my clothes invisible either.

So... What are YOU doing? - Part 8

The floor I talked about before is now sanded and has lacquer on it, and looks very nice. The adjacent room is now painted, although the ceiling needs an extra coat to cover where the drywall seams are because the wide strips of mud show through a little. Then I can get the ceiling fan fitted...

USA U.S. Philadelphia Mint Prints Final Pennies for Circulation

I've got a bucket of change, some of which is pennies. I have no idea what's in there, it's the kind of thing we raid when our church has a collection based on coins. This year they were handing out the kind of bottles you'd use to feed a baby, so we filled it up with change from the bucket and...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Dedicated, stupid, sometimes I wonder which. Today's walk was warmer than yesterday but still some pretty intense winds. I think the gusts were somewhere around 35mph according to my weather app. I can believe it, there were times when it felt like pushing into the wind.

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

Some of my route is shielded from the wind. Much of it is very exposed. Last year there were days when I was walking into 50mph wind gusts and wrapped in half a dozen layers. That really wasn't much fun.

    Shoes!

For a while I wore Skechers but had two pairs fail catastrophically when they were almost new, the brand's customer "service" was utterly useless, and I haven't bought a pair of Skechers since then. Now I wear New Balance because they offer a good balance of comfort, longevity and price. I use...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

I walked in the howling winds, although I put some extra layers on first. Yesterday I ran in a windproof top, today I walked in three layers. The wind was pretty intense for the most exposed parts of the route, but still not as cold as the worst of last winter.
