Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

You’re still cherry picking. Look at all the stuff in Hebrews 11 that references scripture. The context implies that this reference to Maccabees is scripture. It’s no big wonder that the early church declared it to be scripture.

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

I’ve always gotten the impression that Hebrews 11 is referencing biblical history. Everything else in Hebrews 11 is from the Bible, but we’re going to cherry pick out this one section of a verse and say that’s “just history” even everything else in the chapter comes from scripture? That’s...

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

Probably the same reason many Jewish tombstones today are inscribed in English. It’s the dominant language today.

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

The book of Hebrews is not a primary source?????? Clearly it was an apostle who wrote Hebrews, right? If not an apostle, it is still inspired by God, right? Hebrews 11:35 fits with nothing in the Old Testament, but yet fits perfectly with the story in 2 Maccabees 7. The whole chapter of...

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

It’s not pure fantasy to suggest that the reason the early Christians accepted Maccabees is because the disciples told them it’s scripture. It’s actually much more fantastical to believe the disciples did NOT accept it. I mean, think about it. Think about how Clement mentioned Judith in his...

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

If early church councils have no authority by God to decide which books belong in the Bible, then how do you know which books belong in the New Testament? I mean, you list off all these things that you claim don’t have authority to declare what is canonical. But you never took the time to...

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

Why would Jesus refuse to celebrate? Is it an evil holiday? I mean, we’re talking about the time when the Greeks polluted the temple, so the Maccabees defeated the Greeks, purified the temple, and re-dedicated it to God. What’s so bad about this? This was important enough to God to have...

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

If you don’t have the authority to remove these books, then why should I accept your claim that they don’t belong, especially when your claim contradicts the decisions made by early church councils? What makes you right and them wrong?

Is Daniel 9 talking about an anointed one, a prince; or is it talking about The Messiah, The Prince?

Here it is in the ESV: “Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time. And...

I believe the Earth [emoji288] is about 7,000 years old. I highly recommend Kent Hovind’s 7-part Creation Seminar. It does a good job of explaining scientific reasons why the Earth is young (young compared to billions of years).

What do you suppose Paul meant when he said not to boast against the branches?

When he said, “You do not support the root, but the root supports you.”

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

You have the authority to take books out of the Bible? The councils of Rome, Hippo, and Carthage don’t have the authority to declare which books belong. But you do?

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

Actually, I think maybe Josiah said it on this thread.

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

Well, that’s the claim I’ve heard a million times from people like you. So what is your reason then to reject the decisions of these early church councils?

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

All the early Christians were just a bunch of Neanderthals who didn’t know any better. Our modern-day Christianity has the ecumenical authority to remove books from the Bible. We have the authority to make that decision for all of Christianity. Why? Because we said so. That’s why. Why else?

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

When you say “others did not”....were those “others” an ecumenical church council? You say that these church councils of Rome, Hippo, and Carthage were “just local councils” and therefore don’t have the authority to make a decision for all Christians, since they were not an ecumenical...

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

The author of Hebrews included Maccabees in the hall of faith. That’s clear evidence right there. and thanks for acknowledging that you have ZERO evidence of Jews who lived before Christ that rejected Maccabees.

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

The church councils declared them to be scripture, and ZERO church councils said they’re not. An individual’s opinion is just that...an opinion. Arius also had opinions. Some church fathers had opinions that Mary was not really a virgin when Jesus was born. An OPINION is not a church council.

Did Jesus celebrate the Holiday that commemorates the Maccabees?

When the King James Bible was published in 1611, it included Maccabees within its pages. And it was still called “The Good Book.” Now why’d we have to go and rip that out? Come on now. Don’t be doing that to The Good Book. God is watching.
