In earlier threads I have named the main Rabbi that Jerome studied under, I even named the place and date. However, I do not keep a copy/pasta folder with all of the details of everything you have ever asked me, although I have in the past, I would jump when you said to, I would post it, and...

I think I finally get it! Jews conspiring?? How absurd! Why they were never known to conspire against The Body of Christ!! Bible Societies being Anti-Catholic? Ridiculous! Only Protestants are Anti-Catholic! It's only a mere coincidence that the Protestant Bibles dropped the Apocrypha books...

If you encouraged them you would do so in the manner of Martin Luther who kept them in his Bible.

What about the canon of the Masoretic Bible that Protestants hold so dear to? Aren't they all in agreement that the so called "New Testament" books written by Jews are heretical and thus Aporcrypha? We had the OT canon on day one of the first church, the Church should have only been concerned...

Why don't Lutherans include the same books Luther had in Luthers Bible? OHHH that's right! You got the Bible Society Reformers to defend against Luthers Bible now!

The ABS is part of the UBS... and you are 100% correct! ...about my view on the Bible Society.. which IS the authorized Protestant Bible and it's main contributing sponser was St. Theodore Roosevelt, but don't take my word for it please!!! The book "The Bible Cause" is written by one of the...

It's fuzzy, what I meant was Jerome dismissing what the Hebrew left out of canon and then labeling the rest of the OT of the Greek as Apocrypha Even though I don't believe Jerome ever said that they were no longer canon, he just said that they are not to be found among the Hebrew. Perhaps...

Exactly! That's what did it for me, they all used them and from quoted them as scripture along side other scripture without any distinction or favoritism. Yes the post-Christ Hebrew Canon became the OT canon for Christians but this was based off of Jerome's Latin translation of the Hebrew and...

Yes, you are correct about Jerome labelling Ecclesiasticals as Apocrypha! ..Before Jerome's vulgate all of those books were considered Holy by the Church, they wanted the Holy books translated from Hebrew into Latin instead of from Greek.

Notice he does not call them Apocrypha, that was his argument against Jerome. Notice also that he says that after he says that these are the traditions which the fathers have handed down to us he then says "which, as I said, I have thought it opportune to set forth in this place, for the...

I noticed that too, I actually bought the entire catalog they are selling, perhaps that's why? Sacred-Text.com also has the complete writings of the Church fathers, [under Christianity or Bible] and you can find Rufinus there as well.

"Merely" was originally in brackets and inserted by the translator. He himself reffered to certain books as scripture multiple times in his writings.. and I'm seriously warn out from constantly quoting from the volumes, these videos may be useful to your understanding of Anthanasius.

Yeah, I know they weren't canon according to the Jews, the Church eventually did officially declare them canon so to not confuse Church Tradition with the 'canon' of an unbelieving Jewish sect, less we believe the word of men and not God who prepared Christianity with the books that every church...

Interesting that Anthanasius says that these books were handed down from the Apostles, and then Includes what Scripture they call "Canon" and and what are called "Ecclesiasticals" and then that the Apocrypha are the books never to be read in church and doesn't even name them.. thus Jerome got...

These men who bid us not attend to Jewish fables and genealogies, which minister questioning rather than edification; and who, again, bid us beware of, and specially watch, those of the circumcision; is it conceivable that they could not foresee through the Spirit that a time would come, after...

Rufinus letter to Jerome. There has been from the first in the churches of God, and especially in that of Jerusalem, a plentiful supply of men who being born Jews have become Christians; and their perfect acquaintance with both languages and their sufficient knowledge of the law is shewn by...
