    Speaking in tongues?

Here's the thing, when I'm in church I'm usually not in a mind to grab my phone and start videoing it. That's just one of the many things that bothers me with, for example, the gold dust that's allegedly a cloud of the glory of God that shows up in places like Bethel. When God shows up we can...

Never heard this one (adult body part language warning)

Wow. Just wow. I wonder if the author of this particularly odd article is comfortable with me saying I'm a man without making silly comments about "erectile theology" (whatever that is) and being more inclusive. Since we all look different it's clear we aren't all made in the exact physical...

Have you met (or maybe been near) someone famous?

I nearly bumped into David Cameron, the UK Prime Minister, when walking along The Mall towards Buckingham Palace. This guy came jogging around the corner flanked by two policemen and it was only after he passed that I realised who he was. I met a few politicians - I met Ed Davey (the Energy...

    New forum additions!

Fair point. I'm still not sure about the issue with whether, as a broadly charismatic person, it would be considered against the rules to seek to describe what I see as the excesses of the charismatic movement within the charismatic forum, especially since I don't use a denomination-specific icon.

Poor Theology - Who needs context anyway?

John 13:27b ESV, "What you are going to do, do quickly" It's remarkable what you can pull out of Scripture if you're willing to cut-n-paste it like a ransom note?

    New forum additions!

I can appreciate the desire, but if your theology is based more on human tradition than Scripture wouldn't it make sense to see where it diverges from Scripture? (Just to be clear, I say "if" meaning "if" - I don't know enough about Lutheran theology to take a stance on how well it aligns with...

Do you have pierced ears? (or would consider doing it)

I can think of ways of feeling rejuvenated that don't involve sticking things into myself :) For me a long walk in the woods works wonders. I come back aching to the point my legs barely work, but my wife says I look so totally at peace it's remarkable.

Poor Theology - Who needs context anyway?

Yes indeed. It varies from inappropriate to really very sad when people misuse Scripture to create promises that weren't there. I just posted another thread - "Poor Theology - Declare a thing!" with another example.

Poor Theology - Declare a thing!

This one is something of a followup to the "Who needs context anyway?" thread, based on the notion that we can declare the things we want and they will come to pass. On the face of it, the promise is there in black and white in Scripture: Job 22:28 NKJV You will also declare a thing, And it...

Books Containing Modern Day Miracles and Supernatural Events

Isn't William Branham the guy who preached the curious serpent seed doctrine and claimed that the healings attributed to him were actually performed by an angel named Emma? Here's a serious question - if people truly believe that God literally spoke the universe into being and is mighty to save...

Poor Theology - Who needs context anyway?

That's a very different statement than what IHOP say about how we should "move in the supernatural", plucking a verse totally out of context to make it appear to say the exact opposite of what it actually says.

    Speaking in tongues?

Sure, I'd assumed he was talking about unbelievers, in which case it's important not to just go round casting out demons because they will only return later.

    New forum additions!

Just wanting to clarify how it's intended to work. One thing that annoyed me intensely on CF was the way people could start a thread, tag it "teaching" or "fellowship" or some such and so avoid having any questions asked about the theology they were presenting. If the forum is going to allow...

    Speaking in tongues?

We can argue over whether to refer to demons as "presences" or not although what we call something is really secondary to what we do about its - er - presence. The idea of just sensing something and immediately casting it out is unhelpful, not least because of what Jesus said in Matt 12:43-45.

    New forum additions!

A question about the "Charismatic" denominational area. I'd identify as broadly charismatic but utterly and absolutely reject the silliness associated with the likes of Bill Johnson and his ilk. I'm assuming you're going to have broadly similar rules to CF about "teaching against" the...

What would you like to see?

I'd like to see vast amounts of CH cash sent to anyone whose name ends with -ango If anyone lacks the CH cash to send, don't worry, I accept real cash in any hard currency :)

Poor Theology - Who needs context anyway?

This one is an interesting quirk I found on the web site of the International House of Prayer in Kansas City. Thankfully a lot of people haven't heard of IHOP in any context other than pancakes because a lot of what goes on at IHOP is odd to say the least. When looking at their web site I found...

    No kill animal shelters?

I agree up to a point, although what happens if you're faced with crippling vet's bills to restore a sick animal to health and you don't have the money to pay the vet? It's easy to say that we shouldn't put an animal to sleep but realistically speaking sometimes life just throws such a curve...

    Speaking in tongues?

Why does it work against Satan to heal someone? I'd say it was a pretty good tactic, give someone the healing they so desperately crave and let them give the glory to God for it. Then slowly let the original problem return and watch them cry out wondering why God abandoned them. Rinse and repeat...

    Speaking in tongues?

This is where balance is crucial. Yes, there is a lot of excess within the charismatic movement and when you get into the hypercharismatic crowd they do all sorts of stupid stuff that bears virtually no resemblance to Scripture and yet they insist it is all of God because "it's anointed". But...
