Sadly, in a nation permeated by ignorance and denial of science, ignorance of foreign policies and economics, I don't see that happening anytime soon. However, this is a good time for democrats to regroup and analyze everything they did wrong and use this as a moment of learning, and not to become disenfranchised but to redouble efforts and let everyone know we're still here.

Choosing a different candidate may have helped. Both Republicans and democrats chose candidates who were not well loved by the USA public.

Yeah, hindsight is 20/20 as we say here. But now we're stuck, and we have to deal with it. :(

As you say - we are here and what we have must be dealt with as it is rather than as one wishes it might have been. I do think non-violent civil disobedience may be the most effective means of dealing with a corrupt electoral system. Governors ought not draw the boundaries between electorates for the federal government. An independent electoral commission (for federal electorates) made up of career public servants and whose decision are open to public scrutiny and comment before being finalised is needed. Similar state electoral commissions are also needed. And the Electoral college ought to be abolished so that a popular vote directly elects the president of the USA. Perhaps reducing the powers of the president and moving more towards a bicameral government with the executive drawn from the elected members of the House of Representatives and Senate would work better. Let the Majority leader in the House be head of government and the President head of state. With due care and careful amendment the constitution could serve a better democracy than the travesty that appears to be the case today.

Yes, now is not the time to give up, but to work with the hand dealt to us, however bad, and hold Trump accountable to the law. We must stand together to make sure that fear and hatred and bigotry do not allow our leaders to turn us against one another, because that will surely lead to loss of liberty.

I'm watching a video by Sam Harris on the election of Trump, and one of his points is that we just have to hope that Trump lied about how horrible a person he is. That he simply played the part of a loose cannon bigoted misogynist just to get the votes of those who feel alienated by all the political correctness. I don't know if I buy it, but it is food for thought...or wishful thinking. :)
I don't believe he's that bad. He said himself that some things he said were jokes.
One muslim girl said she voted for Trump. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...m-a-woman-and-an-immigrant-i-voted-for-trump/

I believe he was a horrible choice for president...he is less prepared for the tasks and responsibilities ahead of him than anyone who has taken office during my lifetime by far, and likely in all of our history.

He has some huge plans and promises to fulfill, and I hope/suspect he will fail at most of them. The best we (the majority who did not vote for him) can do is to render him impotent and stand in his way in every way possible, and to reject his message of fear and divisiveness.

Yes, non-violent civil disobedience is effective in frustrating the designs of tyrants, demigods, corrupt oligarchies but it must be persistent and irresistible. The powers will react with violence until their own position becomes untenable and their moral bankruptcy is evident to all. Use facebook, twitter, sms, and every means of group communication to coordinate the disobedience. It may take a while.

What he said in the bus was no joke. It was bad taste at best and an admission to molesting women at worst. He is no gentleman.
LOL I never said he was a gentleman. That's obvious. He didn't say those things in public, so who cares, and if his wife likes it, what do I care? Better than a creep who talks neat but really does those things and Hillary shut women up when they complained about her husband.
What he said if that woman was on her period was plain funny.
He says he loves women. Of course he does, he's married to one. In Holland if a guy likes you he insults you and would say things like are you on your period? Those American women don't understand that. They think it's extremely rude if they date a Dutch guy. So if he does this towards women who he actually likes, he will be good to them he said and he joked about Russia having to spie on Hillary and I think he said he wanted her killed, okay I agree, someone should teach him to be more politically correct, some things you just can't say, but don't take everything too serious. He's married to an immigrant. He now says oh well gays marrying is now legal anyway, so what do I care?

He's honest. I saw him in a church and they kept asking him if he asked the Lord forgiveness and he simply said no. If he made mistakes he would trie to do better next time.

He is not honest. In the debates, in his speeches, in his tweets he lied repeatedly even after corrections were given to him he continued to lie. He is a liar.

He did say those things with a microphone and it was turned on. He said it in public and he doesn't care. He shrugs it off as locker room talk he is a very dishonest man.

I mean not now as a president (candidate) in public. He's not encouraging people to go do that. What do I care if he used to say those things in public? He even said sorry for it. His wife forgave him and said we should do the same lol. That was really smart from her.
Sure, he may have said that he didn't say something while he did, but he's not really dishonest.

He encourages by example. Donald Trump disrespected women and he disrespected Hillary Clinton as a woman that is why he said nasty woman rather than nasty person. He called her "crooked Hillary" every time he mentioned her name in his campaign speeches. Donald Trump was not joking. He is not a good man. He is not a moral man.

Why is she not nasty for saying these things about him and why is she a good, moral person and he isn't?
Noone is good but God alone.
A not lying politician would be best, but most don't want a theocracy.

Makes me think of that joke.
A young man named Chuck bought a horse from a farmer for $250. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day. The next day, the farmer drove up to Chuck’s house and said, “Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the horse died.”
Chuck replied, “Well, then just give me my money back.”
The farmer said, “Can’t do that. I went and spent it already.”
Chuck said, “Ok, then, just bring me the dead horse.”
The farmer asked, “What ya gonna do with him?”
Chuck said, “I’m going to raffle him off.”
The farmer said, “You can’t raffle off a dead horse!”
Chuck said, “Sure I can. Watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead.”
A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, “What happened with that dead horse?”
Chuck said, “I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at five dollars a piece and made a profit of $2,495.”
The farmer said, “Didn’t anyone complain?”
Chuck said, “Just the guy who won. So I gave him his five dollars back.”
Chuck grew up and now works for the government.

Are you arguing that crooked Donald Trump is not so bad because you think there may be somebody as bad as him or worse than him in the world? How does that make crooked Donald Trump good? Satan may be worse than crooked Donald Trump but that doesn't make crooked Donald Trump good does it? No. Of course it doesn't.

Nobody's perfect, but he's not completely immoral, otherwise he wouldn't have chosen a good, moral vice president plus he doesn't kill babies and doesn't slime with jihadists, so I think he's a better choice than Hillary.

Vice presidents have no significant power. Is there any good reason to believe that Mike Pence will be a good influence on crooked Donald Trump?

If there is then impeach crooked Donald Trump and have Mike Pence as president
