I am generally a good catholic boy, but I do dabble in the worldly desires of homosexuality. I know that this is generally scorned, but with what real evidence? Most of the Catholic belief systems behind this are incorrect or in mistranslation, or just generally a little silly. Jesus, the leftist that he was, probably wouldn't have cared that much about my individual lifestyle. His beliefs align more with mine than your average everyday Christian, so how can I grapple with this division that I feel from my fellow Catholic man considering my firm belief in the rightfulness of my actions?

Are we supposed just to affirm what you have already decided is going to be your attitude towards the issue?

Here are some red flags that stand in the way of the stance you want us to approve--

1. It's the gay lobby that has worked hard at reinterpreting Scripture in order to make the claim that what is written in the Bible is only a "mistranslation." And you are repeating that to us here.

2. The Catholic Church is hardly the only branch of Christianity that believes homosexual acts (not homosexuality itself or a homosexual inclination) to be morally wrong.

3. You label Christ a "leftist," but he was far from being that. Although he did not consider himself bound by the legalistic rules of the Hebrew religion, he was hardly a libertine or a rebel against all established authority. Morals did matter to him, and this shows up in a number of his teachings and encounters as is recorded in Scripture.

4. If the average Christian is a sinner, that does not mean that your own sins are acceptable to God. The argument you're using in this case is called "whataboutism."

5. If homosexual acts are to be considered innocent, what does that say about heterosexual acts outside of marriage? Adultery and fornication are roundly condemned in the Bible and by Christ personally, but we're now supposed to conclude that similar behavior towards a person of one's own sex is therefore perfectly all right?? That makes no sense at all.

I half expect he only came here to seek affirmation and to soothe his conscience on the issue as he already knows his behavior is sinful as shown by his description of his actions as being worldly. He already knows his acts are wrong but suppresses this knowledge in his unrighteousness which is the standard M.O. for an unrepentant sinner who is not born again. I am certain any quotation of scriptures provided by anyone will either be deemed having been mistranslated or having been misinterpreted by the OP.

Well as for your question , the best way to go about is to repent of your sins and to put your trust in Jesus' finished work on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins. If you did this, your problem would go away.

Since you mentioned being Catholic, I would like to advise you to look up on YouTube and watch (if you haven't already) the channel Ascension Presents. It has numerous videos about homosexuality, LGBTQ+ etc. Both priests and laypeople have made videos from a Catholic perspective on that channel. One priest in particular, Fr. Mike Schmitz, has made several presentations on the topic of homosexuality. You should spend a few weeks binge-watching those videos.

Here are three to get you started:

You're a liar.

You're not a good Catholic.

The Bible is the evidence and is very clear. No mistake. No mistranlation.

How does Jesus align more with you being a queer than the Christian who believes in Him and has been born-again?

Your 'firm belief in the rightfulness of your action' is proof that you are not of God. You are of Satan. How do you like it there? Hopefully, very well, as you will spend eternity there.

I think our new member meant that he is regular at worship, observes the sacraments, believes in all the uniquely Catholic doctrines, etc....while being concerned about the issue he presented to us. To put it another way, he's not unlike millions of other Roman Catholics, although the particular issue(s) of concern for them may be something other than the Church's teaching on homosexuality.

Whether 'gayboy' is God's or Satan's isn't really the issue in this thread, which is not to say that the question isn't important.

His username suggests to me that he is not interested in changing to a holy lifestyle. Usernames can be changed though, so lets pray he repents and straightens out.

...and the message he directed to us in that post (#1) confirms it.

He says he's a believer, so we go by that confession of faith here at Christianity Haven.

I understand that there are evangelicals that believe that gays automatically go to hell for their sin, which is why I haven't removed your post, because it's attacking the belief and not the actual person. I also understand that the flaming rule here can be confusing to people, but we allow for flaming of beliefs. Now, if the thread continues and in every post the accusation of going to hell were made, then it would become more of an attack of that member and wouldn't be allowed.

I just needed to clarify all of this here.

[1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV]
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

God does not seem particularly ambiguous in His word. I would have a hard time arguing that God made me greedy, so it is natural for me to steal and God loves me and really wants me to continue to be a thief. I would have a hard time arguing that God made me an alcoholic, so it is natural for me to drink until I pass out and God loves me and really wants me to continue to be a drunkard. I have no idea how you can make those claims about your sin of choice and keep a straight face.

Appreciate the clarification.

My difficulty was/is with his 'confession' which was completely contradictory to what he said about homosexuality.

1.) He openly doubted that Christians have a reason to scorn homosexuality. Though Scripture is clear.

2.) He placed doubt on the Catholic system concerning homosexuality which is certainly based upon the Scripture.

3.) He claimed that Jesus would not have cared about his homosexual lifestyle. Which is nothing short of blasphemy in my opinion.

4.) He claimed his homosexual lifestyle is more in line with Jesus then present day Christians. More blasphemy in my opinion.

5.) And the worst...he claimed his firm belief that his homsexual actions were/are right.

In other words, I myself am nothing but a rotten sinner. I would never dare to compare myself to any others on the basis of some sort of morality or that I am not so great a sinner as you are.

But...I don't try and pretend my sin is not sin. I don't try and fool myself that what I did/do is not a sin.

The Bible is clear on this issue if you would just read it.
