@Stravinsk I've never done any canning of preserves. The Amish do it all the time and the results are excellent but I have no idea how they do it. It's just easier to go down to their little stands and purchase what I need :D They even started putting a label with ingredients on their jars. Pretty cool.

Doing laundry and eating breakfast right now.

I think it might be fun to live with the Amish for like a month just to learn more self sufficiency tricks. I don't think I could join them though, and I could only do it with the understanding that I would need alternatives to the meat/egg/dairy products they eat. Extra serving of potatoes, please, more whole grain bread, nuts and seeds etc.

Happy weekend all! How are you? Today, I’ve just had leftover pizza with lemon iced tea for lunch. Tonight, just playing some games on my phone before hitting the pillow.

Since the Amish eat mostly meat and potatoes I'm not sure how you'll survive LOL

Among other things, I milled wheat and made fresh flat bread with it today. Normally I buy whole wheat flour and use that, since I don't have proper milling equipment. But I decided to try anyway with what I've got. The best I could get was a course mill, and I added too much water for mixing so I wound up adding a little white flour...maybe 15% or so.

Flat bread turned out fine, and I noticed a taste difference over the store bought flour I usually use. I also noticed it filled me up more with less.

I have to get a mill. Need to decide on electric or hand, and I'm leaning toward hand if I can find a good one.

Tilled a bit more land and planted some broccoli and cauliflower - 2 crops I have so far been unable to raise on my soil.

Is it an option to get a hand mill with an electric attachment? If you like the idea of being self-sufficient even if the power goes out it seems like a good option, so you can save the manual effort but if you can't use electricity for some reason you can still mill.

Since I assume you're not using an enormous great thing, can you fashion something that's essentially a small scale windmill or hydro mill? It seems like a cool concept to have a water wheel that drives a millstone, even if only a fairly small millstone. Most of my dreams (mostly pipedreams) about going totally off-grid feature some kind of power generation from a stream or river.

Looking into which SSD options are best for my laptop, and how best to encrypt the data on it. Running Windows 7 rules out a few of the most obvious options for encryption so I'm looking at using something like VeraCrypt. Now I just need to decide whether it's worth paying the extra money for something like a Samsung 860 Pro.

Please don’t quote me anymore, thanks. I hate answering questions.

Howdy morning all! How are you? Today, I’ve just had my usual 3 hours weekly therapy session both online and by phone. Tonight, just resting in bed before hitting the sack.
