Hi

Christ died for us while we were yet sinners See Romans 5:8

Just have to know you are a sinner who can not save yourself

Just have to trust Christ and his complete salvation

Christ died for us while we were still sinners does not mean we don't have to repent of those sins to get saved.

Your forgiveness of sins was because of Jesus' death on the cross. So yes, objectively we are forgiven before we ever ask for forgiveness. Subjectively God gives us faith so we can trust in Him, repent of our sins and wait for Him to return living out our lives as little Christs so we can have eternal life.

We get faith by hearing the message, being taught, persuaded, and convinced. We repent of our sins and have faith that his blood washes away those sins.

None of that can happen except that Christ died for the forgiveness of your sins already. God uses His Word to bring us to faith to trust in that. Our repentance doesn't earn us forgiveness. We repent because God's law brings us to contrition and His grace gives us faith so we can believe in Him. What do we believe? That He has redeemed us by His blood. That was at the cross.

Hey

This is a good discussion.....right on

Repentance is changing your mind in realizing you can't save yourself...to be sinless is beyond us....I realized that all that was required in the Bible to be Godly was reflecting the person of Christ and I could never be sinless like him.....I then realized Jesus's sacrifice was for me.to pay for all of my sins and salvation was freely given as a gift.

Repentance is not cleaning up to be saved....repentance comes after salvation to please Him.

What?

Who said this: Repent or perish.

We repent because God's law brings us to contrition and His grace gives us faith so we can believe in Him. What do we believe? That He has redeemed us by His blood. That was at the cross.

God's law brings us to contrition?

Repentance is changing your mind in realizing you can't save yourself...
You need to repent for saying something about me that is not true.

Where did I say I can save myself?

Show it now or you should repent.

This is serious now.

Don't make up things about me that I didn't say.

Show it right now. Thank you.

Jesus says to repent of your sins or perish.

If you don't believe Jesus then what is the point?

Do you believe Paul?

Go ahead and explain this scripture for me:

2 Corinthians 12:21 I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged.

By doing what Jesus said to do and repenting of his sins.

No.

Paul wasn’t saved yet on that road to Damascus when he finally believed.

Acts 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Paul was not saved as soon as he believed Jesus on that road to Damascus. This proves faith alone is not a true doctrine. Paul had to find out what he had to do; Jesus told him where to go, Paul obeyed and went. Paul did not eat or drink for three days, and he spent that time praying.

Acts 9:9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank.

Can you imagine the prayers of Paul?! Paul no doubt was crying and asking God to forgive him for all his sins.

Acts 9:11 The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.

Acts 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.

The disciple Ananias put his hands on Paul and he received his sight. Then Paul got up and WAS WATER BAPTIZED after that. This all happened to the praying Paul who no doubt repented of his sins and asked for forgiveness.

Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.'

When Paul had his vision restored to him, he was told to get up, be baptized and wash his sins away, calling on the Lord.

When people were baptized with water that was symbolic of having their sins washed away, after they repented.

In addition, people came out of the water after repenting and being baptized, they called upon the name of the Lord.

We are told to believe, and repent, and to call upon the name of the Lord.
Galatians 1 proves you are wrong about Paul. Paul tells us that he was set apart by God before he was even born. God did all the work. No human requirement demanded before God saves. If human requirement was demanded then there is no longer any grace from God, only legal justice provided.

"But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles,"

That is about God setting apart Paul as an apostle.

God did all the work. No human requirement demanded before God saves.
One has to deny a lot of scripture to think that.
Believing is a work and God requires us to do it before we are saved.
We are also told we will NEVER ENTER unless we humble ourselves as a little child.
Salvation is to those who repent of their sins.

If human requirement was demanded then there is no longer any grace from God, only legal justice provided.
So you think God should reward you for doing bad works?

The works we don't have to do anymore are the purification works of the law.

Hear O Israel...

There was Salvation before Christ died on the Cross...

To hear is to obey...

Yes, those who had faith in the coming of the Messiah before He died on the cross were saved by grace through faith. Just like the rest of us. It is all contingent on His dying on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.

So you don't believe that Christ's death actually forgives you of your sins?

Hi

Me saying "you can't save yourself" was not directed toward you or anything you said....it was a general statement explaining repentance is a change of mind in regard to our condition and our need of a savior. A change of mind toward God and Christ and the cross work of Jesus.

We have to actually confess and repent of our sins.

We aren't to repent of our condition and need of a savior.

So we don't have to repent of those sins to be saved?

I don't make "repentance" into a condition of salvation since the Savior is the one who saves. Repentance is God bringing us to contrition by use of His Law through the word and then He doesn't leave us in despair but by His grace He gives us or strengthens our faith (again by His word of the Gospel of forgiveness) turning us to Him.

I've seen some people use repentance to mean that they need to live a perfect life in order to have salvation. That's works righteousness.

The Savior is the one who says to repent of your sins or perish.
Those are the people he saves.

Isaiah 59:20 “The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,” declares the Lord.

Luke 24:47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Revelation 9:20 The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the works of their hands. They did not stop worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk. 21 Furthermore, they did not repent of their murder, sorcery, sexual immorality, and theft.

Jeremiah 8:6 I have listened attentively, but they do not say what is right. None of them repent of their wickedness, saying, “What have I done?” Each pursues their own course like a horse charging into battle.

Ezekiel 18:30 “Therefore, you Israelites, I will judge each of you according to your own ways, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall.

Revelation 16:11 and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done.

Revelation 16:10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in agony because of their sufferings and because of their sores, but nevertheless they still refused to repent of their deeds.

Acts 8:32 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.

2 Corinthians 12:21 I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged.

What would those people like to keep doing that Jesus says not to do?

Repentance was not the condition for salvation. Jesus' death was the condition and it was acceptable by God. God wants us to repent, turning away from our sins and turning toward Him. We are not alone in repentance because we have the Holy Spirit.

Ask yourself this question...are your sins forgiven because of Jesus' death or because of something you have done?

Jesus' words are forever, and he says repent or perish.
He isn't going to save people who don't first repent of their sins.

Luke 13:3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

I've seen some people use repentance to mean that they need to live a perfect life in order to have salvation. That's works righteousness.

Romans 2:5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.

Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Our obedience leads us to righteousness see Romans 6:16.

We are righteous because we obey the perfect law see Romans 2:13.

We do what is right; therefore, we are righteous see 1 John 3:12.

The righteous requirements of the law are fully met in me and all those saved, those who live according to the Spirit, See Romans 8:4.

Righteous acts see Revelation 19:8

We are to offer the parts of our body to Him as instruments of righteousness. Romans 6:13

We are under control of righteousness Romans 6:20

We are to live a righteous life James 1:20

Righteous for what we do James 2:21, 25
