Fun with table saw, part whatever it is now. As described above, a rather drawn out process that involved overcome a few limitations of my table saw (specifically the size) to cut a 23.5" circle from a 24" square of 3.4" plywood. Cutting the bottom away to make a circle about 20" that will fit as snugly as possible into my trash can was also tricky and took many passes. I reckon I gathered up something like a gallon and a half of sawdust once it was all said and done. I feel like I've got another gallon or so all over me.

I've got a very basic separator going on with a 5 gallon bucket and a small shop vac. The shop vac is handy because I can run it and my power tools on the same 20A socket without tripping the breaker. The larger shop vacs would need to run on a different circuit because once they get to 9-10A and the table saw starts running 12-15A something is going to pop. Once I've got my new breaker panel in place I can rejig the power sockets in the room so that alternating sockets are on different circuits, so I can run a high powered shop vac as well as a high powered saw at the same time.

For now I'm happy to be making progress on a larger separator to help pull the horrible cellulose out of the attic. Now I just need a couple of hole saws to put the pipe attachments into place. Assuming it all works I can suck a full black sack out at a time, which will make a huge difference.

I couldn't cut myself out of a paper bag. I'm mechanically challenged

You could cut anything with a table saw. Whether they were things you wanted to cut, or cut how you wanted them cut, is another matter. They are hugely powerful and versatile tools, but also very dangerous if you don't show them a little respect. A guy I know lost the ends of two fingers in a table saw accident.

Of course because the blade is fixed and you feed the wood to the blade, you have to be careful not to feed your fingers to the blade while you're at it.

We have several saws and I have used them before, but it makes me nervous and I'm very careful. Exactly for the reason you mentioned. I do however have all my fingers

I did laps around my street to equal a mile. Coming up the driveway was a little tiring but I did it. If I feel up to it I might go out and walk a bit more.

The first time my wife saw me using my table saw she noticed I was a lot more wary of it than my other saws. I think it's just the way the blade is fixed and you feed things to it that makes it potentially more dangerous - with something like a miter saw you move the blade to the wood so it doesn't take a genius to make sure your fingers aren't in the way of the blade.

The first time I used my hand held circular saw I was very wary of it. Curiously I was never particularly bothered by using a jigsaw or a sabre saw.

Well my big wooden circle is done. Holes cut, pipe joints fitted, and now my mongrel cyclonic separator is essentially ready for a live test. It needs slightly better sealing to improve the suction but so far it's looking good. It also means that, in theory at least, I can suck up 20-30 gallons of cellulose at a time.

Next job is to see how well my caulking around the wood helps with the sealing, cut it back to size if necessary, and then run a live test.

In another little tinkering job I drilled holes in the end of my three concrete blocks, set some concrete into the holes and set heavy eyes in the concrete. Those are for the hooks on my ratchet straps to attach to them as weights, for the days I can't use ground anchors to attach to the ground.

Had a nice day after my speech pathologist appointment (it was an evaluation/follow up and I don't need to return) and did some laps around my block. Watched a new well being dug with a HUGE pipe machine. Then chorizo tacos for dinner. So good. They might have been a tad spicier than I should have eaten but that's what milk is for, to remove the spice ;) Amish goodies for dessert!

Assembled my mongrel cyclonic separator with my medium sized shop vac and found it worked very well. Then tried it with the big shop vac and found the trash can isn't strong enough to withstand the suction. Don't really want to use the medium sized one (that's the one I bought new) because I don't want it to get gummed up with surplus cellulose when the separator starts passing it through to the vacuum but, short of starting over, don't have much option. I don't think my micro shop vac has the suction for what I need, although if it did work it would mean the trash can would fill a little deeper before anything got sucked through.

I'm wondering if maybe I should have paid a little more and got a more solid plastic drum rated for hazardous waste, but it's a bit late now... if it comes to it I'll upgrade it and use the trash can as, well, a trash can. If all else fails I'll keep a trash bag in it and slowly fill it up with sawdust and stuff, and when it's full put it out with the regular trash.

I had a dream.

I was high up on a mountain cliff and way below on the road a companion was waiting for me with his reindeer sleigh and some other friends were further down the road. Then a volcano across the valley erupted and send a large lava flow towards the town and not too far from my companion so I yodelled to warn him and he safely escaped. I woke.

Odd sort of dream :)

Presently, making food for the week. Potato strips marinaded, cooked then frozen. Sprouted wheat will be dry tomorrow. I've got an idea for some sausages using sprouted brown rice and a few other ingredients.

Which reminds me. I remember reading something on the other board about "Why would a Vegan want something that resembles meat?" - as they all giggle in mockery at veggie patties and "hot dogs" and so forth.

The irony is in the absolute stupidity and assumption behind those comments. As if the cows and pigs butchered magically form round patties or cylindrical shaped "dogs". At least my food has no fecal matter in it - and my sprouts also - doing it myself ensures I'm not eating sprouts contaminated with cow or pig crap.

Now who was that that said that? Oh yeah - the dipstick dairy farmer that finally seems to have shut up about his "premonitions" of fake accounts he's NEVER gotten right on the other board. Keeping working those cow tits, dude. They were tailor made for the baby cow - not you - but the baby cow ain't getting the milk as the Creator Designed - instead humans drink it and then wonder why they are always getting sniffles and have so many allergies, along with all the meat they eat. Yep, that's your job.

Speaking of sniffles and snot - since giving up meat completely and the tiny bit of dairy I used to have in my coffee - the snot/sniffle problem is gone. Imagine that. Heed design - get results. Magical faith not needed as magical faith doesn't work.

Just got to thinking that my trash can crumpling under the vacuum created by the shop vac is actually a really good sign, because it means that my early attempts at cutting a circle in 3/4" plywood using my table saw have actually produced a good seal between the lid and the trash can. Now thinking of the best way to reinforce the trash can to stop it crumpling. Top of the list at the moment is some curved pieces of wood screwed to the wall of the can such that a complete circle is formed.
