Is there a bare minimum of doctrines that one must know, understand, and accept as true in order to please God and get to heaven?

As an aside Catholics do not teach that everybody needs to know, understand, and believe some set of doctrines in order to please God and be received into heaven.

I would think that someone on their deathbed accepting Christ would need to know nothing further than accepting Christ as the savior after seeing the need for repentance. The accepted payment is the same Matthew 20:1-16 , altho deathbed conversion would seem a less risky endeavour for those afraid of losing salvation.

That Jesus is Lord and died and rose to take your sins away and that you have to ask Him to forgive you and that you have to forgive others. In other words the sinner's prayer, but also that you have to mean it and can't live like the devil.

I do not believe that the Savior is our own corpus of information. In justification (narrow), I embrace: Sola Gratia - Solus Christus - Sola Fide (God's grace/mercy alone - Christ alone - faith in Christ alone as one inseparable view). I do not delete that and replace it with Scientiam Meam (My knowledge).

Should it be what you know or who you know? :)

We are saved by grace through faith. God gives us faith in order to believe and in our baptisms we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. God uses His Word to teach us and His Word grants us faith and strengthens our faith. He uses Law to accuse and bring us to contrition and gives the Gospel to comfort us and turn us to Him in repentance. He gives us the forgiveness of sins won at the cross. He gives us His love, mercy and faithfulness.

So, what should we know in order to gain heaven or WHO should we know? If we know our triune God and trust in His forgiveness for our sins, we have eternal life.

The Word of God has answered that: 'And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.' John 17:3

I am curious to know how a need to know squares with ideas like salvation is entirely of/from God with nothing of/from human kind in it?

Squares with ideas? I'm thrown by what you're saying here?

I think the personal reassurance from God Himself saying, "well done" my faithful servant will be the best thing to happen.

I mean, how does one reconcile the two concepts? If it is all of God with nothiong of/from human beings then how can knowing and understanding something be needed? How can anything be needed of/from a human being in order to be saved?

A gift is something given freely.

We receive the gift. It's ours. If we toss it and reject it, we damn ourselves. We can't make it any MORE of a gift to be ours by DOING something. It's given to us and we have received it. We will benefit when Jesus returns for us by having this gift of faith.

Just out of curiousity when you got saved did you ask Jesus into your heart? Did you confess your sins and ask for forgiveness? If so you did something

I did not have to DO anything in order to "get saved". God is my salvation. He gave me the gift of faith. I can't confess Him as Lord without first having that gift of faith. He showed me that He died on the cross for ME and my sins are forgiven. I didn't have to ASK for them to first be forgiven because HE TOLD ME by His Word found in the Bible that my sins are forgiven because He DIED for ME. That's the work of God using the Gospel to convert.

Doesn't the Holy Spirit who lives IN YOU get you to grow, do good works?

Salvation is not your job. It's God's.

I make choices as to whether I do or not and choices as to whether I obey or not, it is not my works but it is my choice
