What did His death accomplish?

Do you have anything unique to add to this discussion?

How funny is this. Why are you not quoting them and telling them that I've already addressed this, and asking if they have anything unique to add?

I see no reason to waste the time of members and guests reading to repeatedly ask the same question when it has been answered so I'm uncertain why you would find it to be funny. I have not noticed other members within this thread asking a question more than once besides yourself, have I overlooked such questions?

Asking questions is a part of debate. Is there some rule I'm violating? Or is this just bias?

Here I thought this was a discussion area of a forum and there is another area with a forum titled "Christian Debate." Maybe I am seeing it all wrong, but if you want to debate, you put it there. I thought this area was for discussing theology.

Even in a discussion, questions happen. Otherwise it's just everyone giving opinions without interaction.

Forgiven, you are absolutely correct. I apologize to everyone if my posts came off as more debate instead of merely discussion. This is not the forum for it. I have received answers to my initial post even though they do not fully satisfy according to what scripture says concerning the atonement. Thank you to all for participating!

My apologies. I guess some forums are different. Most I've been a part of use "debate areas" for formal debates, which are one on one. Discussions usually equal informal debates such as we have here.

So, Hammster, I am wondering how you define Universal Atonement?

Christ took the punishment of sin for all people.

Since Paul was a Jew among Jews, he certainly believed in limited atonement. He believed it was limited to the Israelites. He understood that it was only for God's chosen people. There's no reason to think he changed his view. So to say that people didn't believe in limited Atonement from the beginning is just plainly wrong.

If this was true, why was Paul sent to Preach to the Gentiles?

It seems Paul had contention with Jews in his ministry.

His epistle to the Galatians was dealing with Jews trying to turn the congregation back to the law.

Paul as well contended with Gnostic Jews trying to undo his witness.

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

If this statement is correct Paul would have not need to have even preached, nor would there be a purpose for any Apostles.

Can you tell me any other person prior to Augustine that taught this philosophy?

To be elect is to be chosen,or singled out.

God would be quite cruel to Preach salvation to all ,knowing he already has chosen special people.

We were predestined all right ,predestined to have salvation in Christ, slain before the foundation of the earth.

God has set before all people a choice ,life or death so choose life.

All of the apostles taught this doctrine before Augustine. Bad well as Jesus.

Maybe I have misunderstood your statement?

Christ died to provide the final sacrifice for the sins of mankind,or a select group of mankind?

Well of course he did. But that verse does not say ONLY for his sheep when taking the other verses into consideration...He died for all. God didn't do it halfway. The entire world fell into sin and God died for the world, not just some.

2 Peter 2:1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

The part in bold above shows that even those who reject the Savior were "bought" by his blood at the cross. Jesus died for all.

I did not realize that Lutherans held to the position that salvation could be forfeited.
