Another polling question that relates to satisfaction with the head of state is the one that asks if the country is generally on the right track or not. Lately it has been in the 40s for the United States, whereas it was stuck at around 28-30% for a long time when Obama was prez

I wonder how much it has to do with Canada on the international stage. Trudeau is not really much of a statesman. Not many liked Steven Harper either, but I believe he was respected internationally and represented Canada well.
Also the Trans-Mountain pipeline fiasco doesn't bode well for Trudeau. There's a lot of provincial and First Nations loyalty with that one. It's not as simple as Trudeau wants to believe.

Why is it the Prime Minister's responsibility to rescue Alberta's over production of oil rather than Alberta's responsibility to reduce production until a safe and cost effective way of exporting it becomes available?

The wave of popularity that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rode to a majority of representatives in the national parliament in 2015 appears to have diminished to its lowest level. Trudeau’s approval ranking amongst Canadians is now at its lowest level since he was elected, according to Angus Reid Institute’s newest survey. The polling agency found that 35 per cent of respondents approve of the PM’s performance. That is a large drop from the 63 per cent he had in an identical poll in his first month as PM. Thirty-nine per cent of respondents within the new survey said that they “strongly disapprove” of the prime minister, whereas only eight per cent said they “strongly approve.”

That's the sticking point that the PM has waded himself in to. Alberta is the 'lone wolf' behind this. No-one else wants it besides the PM and a scant few First Nations bands (a very small minority of them). "consultations" with the bands were mostly 'meet-and-greet' events with gov. officials. Everyone knows how well those usually go over, given how wonderfully Canada has treated First Nations
