That phrase is used to refer to an easily recognizable attempt to deceive. It’s spoken by the person who is the subject of deception, either honestly in that the person detected the attempt at deception immediately, or dishonestly, in that the person was actually deceived but only claimed to recognize it after the fact. The word “oldest” doesn’t really mean anything related to age. It’s just as an intensifier communicating ease of recognition.
