no contradiction, toungues are not satanic, also would help if you quoted the whole post and gave context. The insult I was referring to was a picture and caption in his signature

But with the verses others posted about Satan giving gifts that mimic the ones God gives...tongues CAN be satanic...and how would YOU know which people are speaking Satan's tongue since you can't understand? You won't know.

Except toungues in church or public should be interpreted not just said and then move on.

How many times have the interpretations been unbiblical? You can't trust that everyone is being honest. I don't trust most people because I've known too many to lie, even while looking you straight in the eye. We're sinful human beings.

It's not real. They call him god.

I thought Mormons worshipped God. You know, the one God? The creator, the merciful, the righteous, the wholly good God that is responsible for all existence?

If that isn't what they worship, then please correct me because I am confused. Thanks.

If it is unbiblical then you should know that it is not of God

Isn't this all going around in circles. Some believe in modern 'tongues' and some do not and there are a few who believe in biblical tongues and think that such may be given by God today but that they are distinct from 'tongues' one hears in Pentecostal & Charismatic meetings today. Aside from that and the obvious difficulty for people in moving from one perspective to another on this subject there does not seem to be a whole lot left to say.

Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

tongues as a result of "asking God "in the name of Jesus .. can only be evil .. if the above words are not true .

Wow, According to scripture it is a gift of the Holy Spirit so it is a good gift, not evil,I agree

Then you should ask for the gift of healing and head to the hospital.

Of course, I don't think I ever said that spouting gibberish is anything to do with the gift of tongues. But even if 100% of people who currently claim to speak in tongues could be proven to be spouting gibberish it still wouldn't mean that God couldn't use the gift of tongues in the future, or indeed use it in people who didn't even know they were using it at all.

I've not said otherwise.

That's a bit too Biblical for these days.

I mean, what's the point of a gift that's quantifiable and beneficial to anyone other than yourself? I mean come on!

Not to mention that going to the hospital speaks of faith in doctors rather than faith in Gods healing. Doctors are fine and put here for a reason, to keep us going until we can build our faith to trust God for our healing

Excellent point!!!!! That brings us to WHY does God bless us? The answer is in Genesis 12 and the Israelites forgot to listen to the last of what God said concerning His blessing us which is why they were so arrogant...we are blessed so that we in turn can bless others. This is an important piece of scripture to remember. :high5:

Indeed. So those purportedly 'blessed' with healing but don't do anything other than take centre-stage in front of a gullible congregation are the people that need Christ the most.

We are all in need of Christ. We all need to be reminded we don't live for ourselves and it's not ABOUT ME! It's not what God can give me or do for me. He's already done the most important thing and that is to die in my place on the cross and my sins are forgiven. When God gifts me with anything, it's not because I was a good girl or deserved it...it's to show love to my neighbor and Him by using those gifts to benefit others instead of myself.

There was a video I saw once of a girl who attended what used to be the "Toronto Vineyard" (until even they cut ties with them for how outrageous they were). The "testimony" of this girl was that she was so "full of the spirit" that she had been convulsing for a whole week. As she walked up to the platform, the Pastor sort of had this "deer in the headlights" look on his face, not being sure what to say to this girl. But you'd better believe the whole congregation was praising and "amen"-ing (not a real word, I know) themselves into a frenzy. The first thing I thought seeing this was that there was something going on neurologically, and this girl had to be seen at an E.R. NOW!
Oh, but we can't speak against the "gifts of the spirit", can we...?

There is a difference my friend. I have nothing against hospitals or doctors and they should be used as needed but the real healing is God and until we can stand ion that healing we need to use doctors. I have no problem with that at all.

Except that just because we ask "in the name of Jesus" doesn't mean we'll get it.

Asking God for a nice new Lamborghini Aventador Roadster isn't likely to result in finding a supercar in my driveway tomorrow morning, and adding "in Jesus' name" before the Amen won't change that. The idea of asking "in Jesus' name" isn't that we just add a few words to our prayer as if they were some kind of magic passphrase to unlock everything we want, it's more about asking for the things Jesus would have asked for if he were standing in our shoes. The only man who ever walked this earth who had the right to demand the kings come together and carry him into Jerusalem in a chariot of solid gold instead chose to ride a donkey, and a borrowed donkey at that. Why would he approve of us expecting the things he himself eschewed just because we stick his name at the end of our prayer? If anything that sounds like taking the Lord's name in vain.

God knows how to give us good gifts. It's just that sometimes we don't like the look of them. Paul didn't care much for the thorn in his flesh until he came to realise what purpose it served.
