Thread went quiet for a while....

I think I have enough wood to make the rest of my baseboards without having to cut into a big piece I've got in the section under construction. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with that piece - it's big enough that I may have to feed it out of the window to get it outdoors - but it's good to be able to keep it in one piece for now at least.

I had planned to work on that over the weekend but my brain wasn't playing along so I decided not to cut a critical piece of wood in case I messed it up and ended up with no option other than to strip and sand a piece I've already finished so I could take a sliver off the width to match something else.

Handing out meals for kids at church today. Then got some more trimming to do of my base boards. I need to rethink how to mark and protect them - the tape I used under a clamped down fence lifted a couple of patches of the lacquer when I removed it, so I'll probably look to just clamp wood onto the wood to use as a fence, then make my cut. Sadly I'm cutting a thin enough piece off the end that I don't have space to clamp a fence onto the waste side.

I've got the corner pieces I cut pinned into place, so slowly getting there.

Just got done handing out free lunches to school-age kids at church. My last shift of the season.

Nasty job today. Cutting holes out of drywall. I'm measuring where the holes in the baseboard are so I can cut out the drywall behind the holes. Then I need to find a way to cut the sound proofing vinyl sheet behind the drywall and fish cables through the holes. It's nasty messy work because it creates drywall dust, and of course it's impossible to get a dust mask worthy of the name. Working a couple of inches off the floor while trying not to breathe makes for sweaty work.

A painful trip to the hardware store. My local place didn't have what I needed so I braved the crowds, the silliness at the larger store (no baskets because they have to be cleaned, but cleaning carts is apparently not a problem), endless announcements to maintain six feet of separation despite it being physically impossible given the aisle spacing, and waiting forever to find an assistant to find out that what I needed was placed elsewhere, among a completely different set of stuff.

Soon off to church to record the message for Sunday. I am so looking forward to an end to the silliness.

More general tinkering on the house. Not hugely productive for a couple of days but I managed to get a couple of electrical back boxes fitted to a piece of baseboard and the first couple of outlets installed. They look nice.

Today's job was running some coax cable ready for an installation of my new phone service. In theory that's tomorrow but it's hard to get any information from the company because their physical office is still closed.

Along the way I also found that I need to cut a very slight wedge shape in the piece of baseboard I need to fill a space. Thankfully it looks like one end can be a right angle (i.e. the easiest kind of cut on a miter saw) and the other is only very slightly wedged. I'm hoping I can get it all close enough that the join isn't too obvious. I've got most of the rest of it mapped out in my head, just need to actually cut the wood and prepare everything.

Getting groceries before it gets hot outside. There is an ice cream coupon so if I decide to buy some I hope it doesn't melt on the way home. I used to have a bag that kept things cool but it wasn't very large and the zipper broke.

Earlier start than normal in the hope that the phone company will actually show up today.

From what I gather their customer service is usually pretty good but with everything largely closed it's been much harder than normal to get any sense from them. Our existing phone company is really tedious - it's been years since I called them for anything because the standard is to spend an hour on hold before getting connected to someone in India who doesn't understand and doesn't show much interest in helping. You can usually talk to someone who can help but you'll have to wait on hold for longer.
