I got my garden all set up but decided to wait until the weekend to plant the seeds. I'm going to try to not fence it all in this time and see if anything lasts with all the wildlife from the field. Other neighbors don't have fencing around their gardens so maybe it will last.

Today I woke up early thinking it was late. LOL

Today's job is to cut a big piece of wood into smaller pieces of wood. Trickier than it sounds at first, I need to cut a board in half along its length, then plane it and sand it to make a baseboard. I can't find the right thickness of wood I need for my baseboard anywhere so it seems my best option is to buy something much bigger (the best I can find at present) and cut it to size.

I think for the next rooms I refinish I'm going to salvage what boards I can and use a different wood all the way around the room, then gather up all the surplus boards and use them to finish other areas that will need attention. Otherwise I'm going to keep running into this problem - several people have said how hard it can be to match things in an older house and they're not kidding. Instead of trying to match wood stain I'm just stripping stuff back to bare wood and refinishing it, but I can't even match the wood grain. It's a hassle for sure.

Nice fast walk in the sunshine today. Soon to go and get my boards and hope I don't turn it into a huge pile of sawdust when cutting it up.

Yet more fun with my boards, which means I can't do anything more with them for a few days while I wait for a couple of things to get stuff delivered.

I'm seriously considering moving the boards I already have to use elsewhere, and just buying new wood to finish this room.

Eating breakfast and drinking coffee. Wondering if it's too cold to clean the back deck this morning. I use Jomax with outside bleach and it keeps it free from mold/mildew all summer.

My new board has already twisted enough that it's not suitable to use as a baseboard. Maybe I'll make picture frames out of it once it's finished moving around.

Plan B - salvage baseboards from another room and strip the paint from them. I hope that works out OK.

Plan C is to just buy a load of white pine and start over. I really don't want to do that but if it comes to that it's always an option.

Walk in the sun this morning. After lunch it will be time to run the mower over the front of the house and then get busy stripping paint from the baseboards I salvaged from another room.

If this works according to plan I can salvage the boards from the next room, put them in the room I'm working on, and then buy fresh board and rebuild the next room so everything matches. It's a hassle I can do without but it is what it is.

Right now I am just winding down by checking out this cool site amongst a few others. Whilst I do this I am listening to Green Day and their album 'Nimrod' who I am starting to fall in love all over again with, as I have been watching a guy play Green Day songs in lockdown that reminded me how I much I loved them.

Earlier I had a lovely chicken and chips dinner with beans, and I also finished some work to prepare for it to be practised tomorrow. So all in all, I would say it has been a bit of a productive day, which is always nice.

Plan B of my woodworking project is showing much promise. A piece of wood covered in a really bad coat of white paint yielded a very nice looking board with a similar grain pattern to the room I need to finish, once the paint was stripped away. Stripping paint isn't much fun but a combination of a scraper and my belt sander saw to it. Now I've got a board a whisker over 5 feet long that is smooth to the touch.

I've got another piece of board upstairs but I suspect I'm going to struggle to get it downstairs. I may end up feeding it out of the window, then in to the basement through the window, then into the room I need to finish through the window. This could be an interesting process....

I've got a second piece of board stripped and mostly sanded. The long piece is still going to present some interesting logistical challenges but for now at least I don't think I need to be using it. It could come in handy if I need to replace other woodwork upstairs.

It looks like the people who built my house pulled a common trick for the time - the woodwork downstairs is oak but upstairs much of it is pine, although it's stained so they both look similar. The trouble is that I can find oak easily but finding pine to match what's upstairs is all but impossible.

Thinking about getting a walk in before church. We could have heavy rain and thunderstorms this afternoon. Hopefully nothing will knock out the power at church while we're recording our message for Sunday.

Nice walk in the sun this morning, then recorded the church message for Sunday. Hopefully we'll be able to meet properly soon, I'm really getting bored of things being shut down.
