Lazy morning this morning. I think the last time I stayed in bed this late was a couple of months back when I was sick.

Finishing off coffee, then thinking about going for my walk around town and scraping some more of my floor. Using a scraper is tiring because it involves working on hands and knees on the floor, shifting around to manually scrape stuff off the surface of the floor, but it saves a fortune in sanding belts.

Later this afternoon I need to be at church to record an Easter message. The pastor is giving the message, I'm helping with the technical bits, safely behind the scenes.

Fairly productive day so far. Morning coffee drunk, walk in the sunshine enjoyed, floor mostly scraped, Easter message recorded ready to go out tomorrow, afternoon coffee drunk, more floor scraping done.

Now it's time to go play with my belt sander before dinner. Hopefully the freshly scraped floor will cooperate and I won't gum up endless belts along the way.

I'm going to need something meatier to attack my floor. I've scraped the surface varnish off and created quite an impressive pile of scrapings (now in a bucket thanks to my shop vac and separator) but still the bits that remain aren't playing nicely with my belt sander. I really don't want to have to be buying more aggressive chemicals to deal with it. So far applying acetone with paper towels seems to be lifting something - the paper comes away fairly dark but I'm not sure whether it's lifting the varnish or the stain or a bit of both. The trouble with acetone is that it's very intoxicating not to mention explosively flammable so it's best to avoid spreading too much over too wide an area.

It's great fun to use as a firestarter, you just don't want even a small spark when applying it across the floor.

Slept way longer than usual last night. Not sure why, probably a combination of having a couple of good beers during a video chat with a friend from abroad (who also likes good beer, so we were trying to one-up each other) and a really heavy dinner. Now hoping coffee will wake me up properly so I can sand some more of the floor.

I figured out how to stop going through sanding belts so fast. Sadly it took me all but two of my sanding belts to figure it out, and one of the last two is now worn out because of the amount of sanding it has done. Thankfully I found another six belts for sale within a 15 minute drive of home, so I can continue.

While we were out collecting them we figured we might as well replenish a few groceries. Still no toilet paper anywhere, it would appear.

Slept in this morning. Looks like a pretty day for a walk even though it's 20 degrees cooler than yesterday.

Walk felt like a slog today, even at a slower pace because my wife came with me. She found it even more of a slog. But we got our exercise in, which was good. Next up is choosing some paint colors for the room that's getting close to being rebuilt.

Got some paint swatches to choose some colors. I got to thinking it makes more sense to paint the ceiling and then finish the floor, rather than the reverse. Not a great night last night so ended up sleeping in my recliner instead of doing anything useful. Oh well..... it's not like I'm going anywhere....
