Went for a walk/run with my wife, who has taken something of an interest in jogging. She jogged for more of the route than I expected her to.
Then I took the chance to clean up some of the debris over on the other side of the house. Having taken out a chimney stack some months back I noticed that I could now get at a baseboard I'd never been able to remove before. I needed to get a pry bar behind it but couldn't because the chimney was in the way. Now the chimney is gone, so I got the baseboard off the wall easily with a pry bar and then used a wrecking bar to remove the featherboard behind it. The featherboard splintered in the process, which was largely expected as it was nailed to the concrete.
Now I have exposed a bunch more holes in the wall where the beams supporting the floor go. Now I've cleared some of the debris away I need to get in there and clean out the holes, then fill them with insulating foam. That will stop a bunch more cold drafts from coming in this winter.
In the process I figured out a related problem we have in the kitchen, but to fix this one isn't going to be trivial. I may have to drill into the bricks from the outside and spray foam into every single one of them, then use a touch of cement to fill the holes. The only other ways to get at the holes are to pull down the kitchen ceiling or lift the floor in the room above, neither of which is an even remotely attractive proposition. Thankfully the bricks I'd need to drill through are accessible from an enclosed porch so I wouldn't be exposed to the elements while working.
