Getting frustrated with my water-based separator. I decided I was going to try and build it inside the shop vac rather than using another bucket, because that makes life easier when carrying it around. With it inside the shop vac it means I have a bucket I use as a separator to take out the big chunks, then the shop vac has a water trap to take out the fine dust. If I made it outside the shop vac I'd have one bucket to catch the lumps, then another bucket to catch the fine dust, then the shop vac. So I'd have three containers and three hoses.
Sadly building it inside the shop vac soon revealed I was missing a plumbing elbow, so I went to the hardware store to get one. Having built it all I found my sealant won't seal to the side of the shop vac, which is a nuisance but I can work around it. And then I found that the suction agitates the water, so I'm going to need the sleeve used for sucking up a wet mess. I don't have the sleeve, so I guess I'm going to the hardware store again in the morning. I really hope it works after all this, it will be hugely frustrating if the final conclusion is that it's still not right. If it comes to that I might end up putting this shop vac in the woodshop to catch fine sawdust and use the other shop vac to deal with the dust. I just don't want to blow up another $80+ shop vac if I can avoid it.
