I went to a men's group tonight. The discussion was about the Sunday morning message at the church I have been attending.
They have a lot of small groups during the week, so I am going to try several of them

I'm watching this street preacher on youtube. Standard stuff...then it starts to get...theatrical. Ok, he's got a statue of Mary, and chipping away at it with a hammer preaching about idolatry. The gathered (catholic) crowd is smiling and smirking.

Scene switch. Now he's holding some sort of stick with multiple prongs. Quotes Isaiah passage about righteousness is as filthy rags. Then I notice what is on each of the prongs...lol. A supersized, giant jumbo maxi pad drenched in red. ROFL.

I'm on the floor just typing this.

I'm at home today, it's a cold rainy day with occasional hail. I had to stay home to receive my new National Broadband Network modem-router. It arrived at about 15:45 (local time). I had a look at it and read its manual. Monday next (14th August) is the day that is scheduled for my telephone service to convert to the National Broadband Network (NBN is the abbreviation for the network).

It looks like the roll-out plan for the network was fairly contentious. is it part of a general transition, or a "latest and greatest" system?
Weather here hasn't been too bad. It was supposed to be in the upper 30's c, but there have been a rash of forest fires for the last few weeks, and a haze of smoke has drifted in that has helped keep things cooler

The original plan was to bring "fibre to the home" for every home in Australia. That plan was from the Labor Party when it was in government but for the last 4 years we have had the Liberal/National parties in power as a coalition government and they changed the NBN to be "fibre to the node" for existing homes and if the builders were willing then to have fibre to the home for new homes. The change in plan did mess things up quite badly and the service offerings by the NBN Company are not not a whole lot different from those we had under DSL using the copper network and old fashioned telephone network. Alas ...

It's been a while since I slept so much.

Mid day yesterday for no reason I could think of I just needed a nap. That was around 1pm or so. Nap turned into extended sleep - woke up at 8pm. Ok. Hop on the net for a short bit, drink a few cups of chocolate with honey. Back to bed shortly after midnight. Wake up at 8am. Feeling like I needed all that. Catch up time for the nights of alcohol induced/not enough/not good enough sleep.

First small steps towards some roof work I need to do to make it easier to get at the wiring over my bathroom. Today's job, which was based on not a whole lot of time, was to get a strut put into place to support the rafter I plan to cut. I managed to get it measured and cut (angled, to support the rafter as effectively as possible), then screwed into place under the rafter. I started to cut the rafter and it appears not to be bearing much, if any, weight. So next time I get chance to be in there I can cut the boards away from above the rafters, screw through the rafter into the top of the strut, and then cut the rafter out completely.

Strav, you aren't getting ill are you?

Tango, you should have just built a whole new house :D

Today is quiet relaxing day at home so my husband can rest. His cough is pretty bad but the meds are finally helping him sleep for more than 10 minutes at a time.

My wife and I did seriously consider the job of moving, before the first piece of wall was pulled down. We decided we wanted to stay put. Sometimes I think life would have been easier if we'd moved, but chances are we'd have just bought a bunch of different problems.

Now the strut is in place I can screw it to a couple more things to make sure it stays in place, then cut the rafter. Then I get to pray my roof doesn't fall in on me :)
