This may appear a little off topic at first, but read it through and see. (Might it actually pertain to many topics?)

Have you ever wondered how general intelligence tests work?

Apart from testing for specific abilities such as matematical formulae, pattern and shape recognition, etc., the general tests normally have a section which contains seemingly innocent questions.

Those questions are the key. Each question has two answers – the obvious, superficial one that everyone will see – but also an even more correct and precise one that only people with the desire and ability to think a little more deeply, will recognise.

People classify themselves by the responses they give.

Taking a leaf out of the general intelligence test book, Pedrito many moons ago started to lay "red flag" traps in forum posts (and when talking to people), to allow people who fell for them to classify themselves in other ways. "Red flag" as in waving a red flag at a bull.

(And although it should not need saying, but unfortunately does need saying because unless it is stated here, some people will attempt to dishonestly accuse Pedrito of, shall we say, insulting their intelligence, or classifying them as unintelligent – Pedrito points out here unequivocally that his red flag traps have nothing to do with the classifying of intelligence.)

Pedrito's red flag traps have a few main purposes. One is to differentiate people who concentrate on the superficial from those who seek to appreciate God's Holy Revelation at one of the deeper levels that God has put there for people to be blessed by.

Another is to show people up who decline to acknowledge the plain teaching of Scripture (even Jesus' own words) when it clearly contradicts doctrines they cherish, but who at the same time maintain that they base their teachings on Scripture alone.

A third red flag purpose is to leave those people without excuse. As it does other Readers who realise that a trap has been sprung, but are unwilling to make the appropriate acknowledgement when it applies to them also.

Sinning no more?

Perhaps we should spread our sin-catching nets a little wider.
