My dad was a trucker, and I was a sailor, and even I find people who can't seem to speak more than a couple of words without profanity to be boorish and I don't like being around them. ;)
I feel so uncomfortable when listening to the swearing continually. Then it was "motherf" this and that! This was a young lady! What a mouth!

I guess the idea is not to learn or to repeat that vocabulary.

This might make me somewhat sexist, but I do find that kind of language a bit more off-putting from women than from men. As a society, we tolerate, and even expect, more boorish behavior from men than from women. :D

In Holland both men and women do it a lot, the most horrible diseases and curses are almost normal language.

Sounds like it Mark. Seems very limited to just use the "f" word all the time. I was wondering if it bothered anyone else and it didn't seem to. I know I looked disturbed by it and couldn't help but show it but I didn't say anything. After awhile I just got up and excused myself and left with my doggie.

Her parents were most likely the same way as well as the people she currently hangs around with. People tend to want to fit in and language is one way of doing that and it gets to a point where they don't even realize it's not acceptable to everyone. In fact, they think those who don't like it are the ones with the problem?

I'm not sure her age but no one in the group that was sitting with us talked like her. We were all older than her. She got real quiet for awhile. She may have sensed she was out of line but then started up again. I had to say good night to get away from that.

Would you like to listen to a young lady talk with every other word being the "f" word or the "mothrf" word? She just went on and on like that.

For me it depends on the context. One friend of mine swears like a drunken sailor but he's one of the most intelligent people I know, and I know he can express himself without resorting to profanity. And although I say he swears like a drunken sailor it's not like every single sentence he speaks is littered with profanity, just that he uses profanity quite liberally.

I really struggled to respect a guy I worked for years ago because he did appear genuinely incapable of saying more than a few words without f-ing this or f-ing that. He was a very reasonable boss, he just didn't inspire a lot of confidence in me because he cursed so frequently it became meaningless.

That's what I'm talking about.

I have friends who do that. It gets very annoying after a while because those words are mostly not adding anything to the conversation. It's not even for emphasis but just part of their "phrasing".

When I mentioned earlier that it might be because of the people they hang around with, I didn't mean at the party, I meant those they normally are around a lot. It's socially acceptable in their group so that's how they are. They get upset if anyone disapproves because they think those people are judging them but I think they don't see how it truly looks to others; they don't care.

No, they don't seem to see how they look.

Good morning. I hope to go to the cookout today. I spend almost 4 hours making potato salad late last night into the morning. I cut up some sharp cheddar cheese too.
