The restaurant owner broke federal, state and local law. This is a fact. Radical groups can do and really do bad stuff. Before the OKC bombing by McVeigh and company, we had the bombing of a science building at Madison by left-wing radicals. We had Patty Hearst and the Liberation Army, we had environmentalist bombers, etc.
When someone make a religion out of their politics they can kill with ease for the cause of their ideology. We have watched communist - socialists murder millions in the 20th century all because of their political ideology. There is no practical difference between communist-socialist ideologues and fascist ideologues. Both actually start from socialism.
But that truth isn't what this thread is about. This thread just addresses the fact that a political ideologue discriminated against a customer, not because the customer was being unruly, but because the owner let her personal prejudice dictate her actions. The reality is that she acted no differently than the racist owners of restaurants in the south who refused to serve Americans because their skin color was black.

Welcome back to Jim Crowe...no thank you. Your solution leads to apartide.

I don't know that it would in this day and age. Back in the day when it was pretty much accepted that white and non-white needed to be separated it would be the norm. These days I think a business that posted "no blacks" would struggle. As a white person I wouldn't rush to support a business that excluded blacks.

Technically refusing service based on political affiliation is very different to refusing service based on skin color. Most of us don't get to choose our skin color but don't have to work in a political administration.

Both the refusal to serve Americans with black skin and Americans with conservative political affiliation stems from an ideological prejudice and intolerance to accept another human being.

I suggest the supporters of Sarah Huckabee Sanders should have a non-violent sit-in at the Red Hen.

How is a sign that says no repulicans, no fisherman, no homosexuals, no Irishmen, etc...any different? You might as well put up a sign that says exclusive private country club. Members only. If you do that and it's based upon ability to pay the dues, then have at it. Do you think the Red Hen could survive?

It was very rude of the owner to refuse service. I suspect that the negative publicity may harm her business. I doubt that Sara was harmed much, maybe a little peeved and a little surprised but she is a tough sort and appears to have a very resistant and resilient personality/persona.

Additional information causes me to reassess my earlier comment. It appears that the staff voted to ask Sara to leave and the owner conveyed their wishes - the staff were uncomfortable with Sara being in the restaurant - Sara and her friends had already been served appetisers for which they were not charged and the owner was very polite when asking them to leave.

Sara's public tweet about the incident in which the restaurant was named has resulted in thousands of hostile facebook messages against the restaurant and several restaurants with similar names in other countries.

She didn't ask for people to start fighting against the restaurant, did she? People enjoy reacting I think. I see it here on the site all the time.

Based on the first article, it indicated the owner tweeted and reported the incident. Huckabee may have later confirmed.
Violence and bullying is not a proper response by conservatives. A peaceful sit-in would be appropriate, however.

Intolerance, very much so. But there's a big difference between not tolerating someone who made a specific choice and not tolerating someone because of something they didn't choose.

No. You are quite right about that, regardless of everything else that might be said of the incident.

What would that be? Intolerance is Intolerance, and it is the new standard of the democratic Party. After a hundred years of positioning itself as the champion of tolerance, the party and its followers have adopted the exact opposite stance.

It is remarkable how intolerant those who claim to preach a message of tolerance can be.

Ha, I only just posted much the same thing about the intolerance of those preaching tolerance.

The difference is that someone who didn't make a choice is simply living out what happened to them. That's not to say it's inherently a positive or negative thing - we can't do much to change our genetic makeup so whether we are black or white, male or female, whatever, it's essentially something that happened to us.

Intolerance or not, taking a negative view of someone because of a decision they made isn't the same as taking a negative view of someone because of something that wasn't their choice.

Not when it comes to public service industries. You cannot just refuse service because you have an ideological difference.

Apparently you can, as long as you are on the right side of the tolerant-intolerant divide. If you are on the "tolerant" side you can be as intolerant as you wish, it seems.

Exactly what I thought you had in mind

'Agent Provocateur'

In the mind of the owner (?)
'Huckleberry' is a 'sinner'
as is anyone who does not find fault with sin

The bible is clear about our associating-with sinners
She wasn't refused 'service' ~but, politely asked to leave
WHICH, occurred peacefully

But to broadcast the name of the place, to SUPPORTERS
was 'no-mistake'
and it is very-likely
that Huckleberry WAS, endeavouring
to bring down the wrath of the Brown Shirts upon the restaurant
and intending to keep herself SQUEAKY-CLEAN (into the bargain)

STIRRING UP SPELLS against those
that do not agree with your 'presence', while calling-it-out, as 'discrimination'
is simply "the pot calling the kettle 'Black' "

Huckleberry is able and free, to choose another restaurant
and I uphold the owner's 'right' to choose_ her 'clientele'

Placing fuel under the incident
~is unfortunately the way that antagonises BOTH SIDES

I see you are not a peacekeeper_ noted

Black Americans were free to go to a different restaurant after being asked to leave. We correctly called it an injustice.
The argument that Huckabee is free to go elsewhere is bogus and avoids the obvious discrimination of the owner toward specific customers she doesn't want to serve.

It might also be kept in mind that the owner is a political activist, even though she tried to play that down in her revised version of what had transpire. And her alibi was soooo lame, saying that the policy of the restaurant has been not to be getting into politics! It should not be necessary to go into the illogic in that claim. And it has also been reported that she pursued Ms. Sanders across the street, continuing to berate her when Sanders went to another restaurant.
