Has someone you know lost weight by taking Ozempic or a similar type of shot/pill?

Yes, me. I started taking mounjaro as my A1c was trending up. That is now down to where it should be, I have lost 45 pounds since the first of this year. My cardiologist says that these meds also have heart protection benefits too.

That's awesome! My dad started one of the generic meds a couple months ago and has lost over 40 pounds as well! He said it isn't as easy as he thought it would be and is struggling because he's still hungry. The doctor keeps changing the dosage and the different type of shot to help him.

I would highly advise against using this drug, as it's being banned by numerous European countries due to several studies which show that it could have deadly side effects.

If you want to lose weight, go on a wholefood plant-based diet. You don't have to starve yourself if you eat healthy foods.

I don't have that problem at all. I guess one has to try different doses to get to the point you don't feel hungry.

The brands my dad is using seem to be easy to get though? Plus, this prevents him from developing diabetes.

During the last couple of years, we diabetics weren't able to get it during a couple of periods of time due to those getting it only for weight loss so demand was greater than the supply. This summer, it has finally evened out it seems. I, as a diabetic, felt we should have been able to get it in a timely manner and those for weight loss could just wait until production was up to start using it.

Considering the possible side effects and what the drug does to one's body, I would imagine that physicians do not recommend it to people who would just like to lose a few pounds

Unless there's a compelling reason why it's not a suitable approach it seems the best approach to weight loss is to eat less and move more.

That's difficult for some people to do actually and not everyone burns calories the same. People with thyroid issues, don't lose weight at the same rate as those with healthy thyroids.

Sure, which is why I said that unless there are compelling reasons why diet and exercise won't work it seems that diet and exercise are the best options.

Even with the shot, you still need to do diet and activity. The shot helps you feel full so that you don't overeat.

So how does the shot actually help, other than tricking you into not wanting to eat? Can't you just decide not to overeat?

Because it causes you to eat less, you make better choices of what to eat to go along with our prescribed diet(s).

It was said up above that all one needs to do is eat less and move more. There are medications out there that actually increase your appetite and with moving more, you don't lose anything.

I know for me, my arthritic knees both me much less than they used to. So that is another positive side affect of losing weight.

My advice is to talk with your physician and not take advice from people off of the internet. Some of the advice I see on here tells me that some of the replies indicate to me that they don't have health problems or weight issues.

Best to take medical advice from medical people, definitely.

The fact remains eating is a choice, and people can choose to eat more or they can choose to eat less. Most people can choose to move around more, although people with mobility issues may obviously lose some options.

I prefer natural options whenever possible, having dropped my BMI from a whisker under "morbidly obese" territory to barely overweight, based on eating less and moving more. Part of eating less is about looking at what you're eating as well as how much you're eating. There's not much point opting for the smaller dish at the diner if you still wash it down with six glasses of sugary soda.

I know a few people around my age that are doing these shots. They are all losing weight, but I worry about the long term health consequences. A couple of them really seem to struggle to keep food in their system.

I don't even know what the side effects are for long term usage on those things. Will they have to be on the meds for a long time to prevent weight returning?

That's my understanding of it, but I'm no expert on the matter. It's definitely a cash cow for whoever invented it.

My dad gets a discount on the shots because he's on Medicare and a Veteran. How much do your friends pay? A friend of mine got quoted $1,000 per shot!! Outrageous.
