I've been feeling something I can only describe as a spiritual heaviness the last few days so after church I went for a walk in the woods. Walking in the woods usually leaves me feeling closer to God, as it gives me time on my own to just let my mind freewheel and give anything chance to bubble to the surface. There's also a spot I hike to where I usually stop for a while to either rest and enjoy the view, or pray, or both. Today I did both.

For the first mile I felt OK, then for the first part of the second mile my legs felt like they didn't have much to give but then I got into my stride and went around my loop faster than I have ever done it.

We've been doing some afternoon/evening walks since the mornings have been too busy. I'm more tired then but I try to get it done.

Easy walk today. We had friends who are practically family round for Memorial Day, and then I took a walk around my shorter route. It was nice in the sun, and bumped into a couple of people I know around the route.

Yesterday I went for a walk in the woods after church, after dealing with a load more heaviness. It was strange, during the sermon the preacher was talking about one passage and I was completely zoned out because the next passage hit me like a brick. Anyway, having processed that during the service I decided I needed some time in the woods, so did my usual walk. A little over 8 miles and I saw one other person out on the trails. He seemed surprised to see me - there aren't many people on the trails and I tend to move more quickly and quietly over the terrain than you'd expect for someone my size.

Today I had a kinda-sorta combo workout. A very dear friend of ours visited with her children, and they love being swung around and any form of game that feels like they are being thrown. So that gave my arms a good workout swinging them around, and then I went for a gentle run later on.

More gentle running this week. Today's workout was unconventional - our friend left her kids with us for the day while she was at work. So we did everything from throwing a ball with them to chasing them around the yard to having a big water fight. By the time I went for my run I was tired, and running in thick humidity really didn't feel good. But I got the miles covered, even if desperately slowly.

It was tiring looking after the kids - it's the first time we've had them solo - but we love them dearly so we're hoping we can do it more often.

My workouts have been outdoor maintenance!! We're going to go walking this morning once the fog lifts. I don't like driving to the trail when it's difficult to see, so we'll wait it out.

The smoke from various fires are ruining the air, so no hiking/walking for us until it clears up. My husband has asthma and he left his breathing treatment device at work :(

It finally cooled down enough after the storms came through this evening and I'm hoping to go walking in the morning if it doesn't rain again. We had some bad flooding in the area, so I don't know if it will be safe to get out there, especially if it rains again. I'm tired of doing my own workouts in the house.

I've been doing some hiking when it's nice outside, and when it's not I've been learning two different versions of The Thriller dance! What a great workout that is!

This first one is for the full song.

This one does the ending and coincides exactly with the official video:

Really not liking the hot weather, it's so very draining trying to maintain a decent pace in it. I've been doing a lot of gentle runs, and my watch is constantly telling me I need to train harder.

Today I did speed repeats. Not full-on sprints, my watch suggested a pace I'm not sure if I can hit at all, but slightly longer blasts even if not at an all-out sprint pace. Five miles of them was enough to get the primary benefit into the anaerobic zone, for the first time in several weeks.

Note to self - don't do speed or sprint repeats without a chest strap. My watch takes too long to catch up to a rapidly rising heart rate, so when I run hard up a hill and feel like I could die it tells me my pulse is 143 when it's actually closer to 180.

Yesterday I went to a local attraction to walk around and get my steps before it got too hot, but today is miserable outside, so I did my Thriller dance workout from the links above. I think it's fun to do.

I ran a 10k today. I say "ran", it was so hot I ended up walking a depressing amount of it because I couldn't keep my heart rate down, but I got there in the end.

I had hoped to do some stuff this afternoon but it took a while to cool off, and the work area is hot and humid so I decided not to bother and took a nap in my recliner instead. The work will still be there tomorrow.

Weren't there heat alerts out for your area? I went outside early to spray the bushes for bugs and it was hard to breathe at 7AM.

It was pretty warm, and running past corn fields is extra humid. It probably wasn't the smartest idea but sometimes I just go out anyway and see what happens.

Oooh I just read today about corn sweat!! I guess it's a thing where it's more humid around corn fields because the plants "sweat".

Yes, it's not always entirely pleasant running past a corn field in the blazing sun when I'm already pouring sweat.

I'm still doing my Thriller workout! As long as I enjoy doing it, I'll keep at it because it gives me a lot of steps and keeps me moving when I feel lazy.

Yesterday my suggested workout was "rest" so I went for a gentle walk. Today my suggested workout is also "rest" so it will probably be another gentle walk. It's supposed to go into the mid 90s today so anything gentle will be a good thing.

It's such beautiful weather that I was able to get out to the trail for my 3 mile hike today!

Just noticed how long it's been since I posted in here.

With the summer heat I really struggled to maintain much of a pace running but now it's cooler I've managed to step it up a bit.

Over the weekend I needed to clear my head and went for my regular walk up to the vista I like. I've been running 4 miles most days this week, walking the last mile or so as a cool down. I'm taking walk breaks to keep my pulse under control until the last mile when I open up the taps, and my watch says my VO2 max is slowly improving.

Maybe I'll set a new PB when we're into the cooler seasons.
