Today was a harder run than I've done in a while. I'm still averaging a good chunk off my personal best times, but I'm also still taking walk breaks because I'm prone to overdo it and need to bring my pulse down. But I'm getting a lot faster on the hills - when I get to the top of a steady incline with my pulse high enough to need a walk break I check my pace, and it's way faster than it used to be. So I'm still hitting anaerobic blowup states, but at a much faster pace.

I can't work out for a few days because I had a biopsy recently and don't want to cause any bleeding to happen. So I'm just sitting at home even though it's the perfect morning for a hike! Wah.

Can you take a gentle walk, or is even that risking problems for you?

It wouldn't be a risk, but I'm just so tired :( I will wait and see how I feel tomorrow.

That's fair enough. Did you get out today?

My wife and I went out for lunch right after church so I decided to walk rather than run, which was a good decision. Running with a belly full of pizza is a bad idea.

Yes, we did go a slow 2 miles yesterday and today we're going to a gardens attraction where I can walk for a long time...sit and walk and sit and walk if need be. There is sun and shade so it will be nice.

I haven't been walking daily like I really want to because of weather and other things going on. I do try to get 7,000 steps a day though, but I don't think that's enough. I need to do better.

I've been doing more walking and run-walk combinations.

I'm still on a long streak of getting 10,000 steps every day. The last time I didn't was December 31, 2022. I think the last time I failed to get 5000 steps in a day was at the end of May 2021.

I need to get back to 10,000 steps a day, but I have no energy. Tomorrow I get my blood work done for my thyroid, so I'm hoping it will give me a clue as to whether I've strayed from my sweet spot.

Good run today. I didn't get to complete my 15k run for the month, which was one of my challenges, so I did that today. I took a few walk breaks and at one point got into an impromptu race against some kind of harvester in an adjacent field. I was gaining on it until the road turned uphill but seeing it would be turning around before long I paced hard against it and managed to hold my own even if it did push my pulse high enough I needed to catch my breath afterwards.

It was a good run, I did 10 miles and curiously managed the last three miles faster than the first three.

We went to a state park we hadn't gone to in a few months and it was absolutely beautiful with the autumn colors!! We ended up doing 4 miles, so that was good.

Yesterday and today I did a gentle (ish) run, with a walk on the end to cool down. Nothing overly hard, although I'm still struggling to keep my speed down when I'm trying to do a base level run.

A longer run today, although I really wasn't on form. Within the first 10 minutes everything in me wanted to just quit and go back home, but I stuck it out for an hour even with a few walk breaks. Then there was a badge for a 3-mile walk this weekend, so I rerouted my walk home after my run was finished to take in three miles. It was the slowest three miles I've walked in a long time, but time wasn't important today.

We have been doing 3 and 4 mile hikes lately, trying to boost things up before winter comes.

I had planned an 8 mile walk today but at about the 4 mile mark I spotted a lot of low cloud hanging over the next section of my route, so I turned back. I still got caught in the rain but just the edges of it. It was about a mile back to where the routes diverged, so I backtracked and continued with my 5 mile route from there. The detour meant I ended up doing a bit over 7 miles - slightly shorter than I intended but it got me some exercise and some time out in the fresh air, which was nice.

We only got in 2 miles and back to the vehicle before the rains started. And then it was mostly rain for the rest of the day!

Did you get the thunderstorms last night too? It was really odd because the thunder sounded like jet planes going over the house, such an unusual noise it made. Power went out for like 5 seconds, just enough for the generator to click on and the microwave clock to go out.

No storms here, we had some fairly light rain and not much more. All pretty dull really, although cold winds and rain aren't a great combo when you're out walking in it.

Today I decided to run rather than take run-walk-run intervals. And I did pretty well until a little before three miles in when the headwinds gusted to somewhere around 25mph, along a road where I was running directly into them with no shelter at all. So I took a quick walk break, then carried on running.

Four miles of running, and curiously my perceived effort wasn't all that high and the time I clocked was significantly faster than I expected.

Then I finished off with a mile and a half of walking to get home again.

2 miles of cold, windy walking and that left me with a chill for the rest of the day now. I hate it when I can't get warm.

It was pretty chilly out today. I swapped out my T-shirt for one of my tops with wind proofing across the torso. I have two of them but the zipper is jammed on one. I hope I can fix it (or find someone to fix/replace the zip), those tops are expensive.
