I seem to be in better shape than most people my age. I won't complain too loudly about it, although it does take work. My voracious appetite for pretty much anything with sugar in it doesn't help though.

That's my downfall - sugar!!

It's an advantage to moving a lot, although it can be dangerous through the winter when the sugary treats are in full abundance and reasons to not go out and exercise abound.

Yesterday my wife and I went for a walk in the woods. We did a little over six miles over rolling hills. Now the snow and ice are clearing I want to get back into the mountains more often.

Isn't there still some ice up there though? We have small hills and there are still ice patches here and there.

The hike we chose was clear, although a little muddy in places.

The walk I like to do involves the north side of the mountain, which is usually slower to lose the snow and ice. I'm more careful with that one, having been caught out before. I got part way down the descent on the north side, finding the patches of snow and ice manageable, and then hit a path that was hugely rocky and totally frozen over. I literally covered half a mile going largely backwards on all fours, because I knew that if I slipped and fell I could hurt myself badly and have no obvious way out. So I reverted to a hugely defensive approach, keeping three anchor points and only moving one at a time, until I was past the rocky patch.

Yesterday I got to the park and it felt a lot warmer than the temps were, so that was great. Today I'm not sure if it's going to feel like that but tomorrow is going to be 70s! I'm so excited to get out hiking.

My wife and I are planning to do another hike today. I ran yesterday, a moderate 4 miles, and plan to run again tomorrow. So a hike at her pace in between serves as a chance to get out in the woods with her, and also lets my legs take it easy for a day.

I'm going to take advantage of a membership I have at a gardens attraction and do my walking there since it will be warm. There are fields and woods I can walk through to avoid the crowds, and I'm sure there will be crowds since schools will be there (end of the year field trips).

Yesterday was a really nice day for a walk in the woods. We covered about five miles, the route is usually longer but we cut a bit off because there's an enormous tree down across the path. It's far too big for any of my power tools to cut, and it turns what should be an easy section into an obstacle course that she doesn't enjoy at all.

Now I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit before I go for a gentle run.

And we're back to rain and cooler weather. We're hoping to get out on the trails this afternoon, but temps will be dropping all day.

Another run today, 4 miles of running and then a mile and a half of walking.

Weights are good, keep in mind that repetition of sets are more important than working with a single set till you are almost ready to pass out. (i.e. instead of lifting a weight a hundred times without stopping try lifting it ten times, resting, and lifting it again ten times etc.)

Look into Kettle Bells.

You don't have to use the heavy ones, you can get them at Walmart as little as 5 pounds to start with.

Take a minute and watch some kettle bell YouTube videos to get some ideas about what exercises and routines with them might be best at giving you the results you are wanting.

My suggested workout was 36 minutes at a low intensity, but I have an outstanding monthly challenge that required 46 minutes of running before the end of the month. So I ran my suggested workout and just kept going for an extra 10 minutes. I got some extra distance, and finished up my challenge before the end of the month.

I'll probably get at least one more run in, but there's the possibility of bad weather looming so I may be doing some walking over the next few days instead.
