A black rat snake can grow to about six feet, a yellow one can get slightly bigger. The red rat snake, aka the corn snake, can reach six feet but they usually top out around 5 feet. Rat snakes wouldn't eat a rabbit, although I can imagine how a fully grown rat snake might eat a baby rabbit.

My suggested workout today is "rest". Which is fine by me, I'll go for a walk with my wife before it gets too hot. Then I've got some more wall building work to do.

I'm gonna go with The two were friends :D

I did a lot of activity yesterday, but no real walking and I was wiped out by evening. Today it's supposed to rain and it smells like poo outside since they fertilized the fields again. So I don't want to be out there gagging.

Another round of sprint repeats. Today my legs just wouldn't give me the power to get to a full-on sprint pace so I had to make do with a slightly slower surge, so I made them a little longer. I think I got 42 sprints into an 8-mile loop, even if the last couple could only loosely be described as a sprint.

Well it looks like rain? We need it but didn't get a drop yesterday! All the clouds went on either side of my little town so we're in a drought probably now. We didn't get our walk in because of allergies.

A longer run today. My suggested workout was slightly over an hour so I decided to extend it and tick off my 15k run for the month.

We're getting bad air quality alerts because of the fires up in Nova Scotia (?). No outside hiking today for me.

We have a chance of thunderstorms later today so I'll probably go for a walk with my wife this morning. My suggested workout is a base level run but I might give me legs a rest and walk instead.

Aaaaaaand today's effort was a walk with my wife, although we jogged for about 20% of the total distance. She's undecided whether she wants to get into running but does want something to build and maintain fitness.

Did you get the storms? We got 5 minutes of rain. We need more than that!

And we have the air quality alerts until tomorrow sometime, so I'm not sure I want to risk my health and go to the park for a hike. My neighbor said she'd walk with me today, so we'll probably do loops on our block if she's up to it. It's so hazy outside.

No storms. It rained, then the sun came out. Then it rained hard, and then the sun came out. We probably had 15 minutes of rain.

I had planned a run today but the air looks incredibly hazy so I'm not sure I want to be breathing it too hard. I might do something at the church hall instead. I hate to exercise indoors when it's sunny out but don't really want the smoke getting deep into my lungs if I'm sucking air on the hills (my original plan was more sprint repeats today). The forecast says it should have passed by tomorrow.

It was really hazy and when I watered my garden, I knew there was no way I'd want to be outside for long. Right now I'm trying to get my 10,000 steps in indoors, but it's hard and I'm not motivated. I'll probably take until bedtime to complete them.

I went outside to check the air and decided to run anyway. I figured if it was hard to breathe I'd cut things short and do something indoors, but didn't notice anything different at all, except for some visual haze. 8 miles of speed repeats later my legs ached. I planned to do sprint repeats but my leg muscles just weren't ready to give it full-on sprinting up hills today, so I slowed the pace and held it for longer. Overall my exercise benefit pushed into anaerobic again, which was the intention.

During the afternoon the air shifted and we could sense some smoke in it. By then my workout was long since over.

It's a little smelly where I live. Could be other things, but I'm staying inside for a couple more days.

For us there's a slight smell of smoke in the air. My wife's sinuses are acting up a little so we've got the air conditioner running in regular fan mode, and plan to run the HEPA filter overnight.

I should probably look at getting an ioniser, I've always found they pull a lot of gunk out of the air.

Our Air Quality is at 310 so we have the windows shut and we're staying inside as much as possible.

We have the windows shut and ran the HEPA filter overnight. This morning looks about as hazy as yesterday did. Depending on whether the air smells smoky we may take some exercise indoors rather than outdoors. Yesterday the haze made it hard to see any distance but for closer stuff it didn't seem to make any difference.

ETA: It looks like our air quality score is 180. I'm not sure what it was yesterday but the haze looks like it's worse today than it was yesterday. Apparently we're supposed to be down to about 80 - 100 tomorrow.

AQI is below 100 so that means I can pretty much ignore the charts unless the air feels bad. Today's run was 45 minutes at a base pace, and part way through it rained so I got the chance to cool off without having to stop to cool off. I didn't manage to keep my pace down as well as I have for some of these but it registered as base rather than tempo so either I'm slow enough or my fitness is improving so the faster pace counts as a baseline.

The baseline pace runs feel kinda boring, but maintaining a base is important so I at least make some effort to keep my speed down.

Another base level run, although today my legs just didn't want to go that slowly and I ended up averaging about a minute per mile faster than my target pace. My watch rated it as a tempo intensity rather than base, which doesn't really surprise me athough it didn't feel like it was much of an effort today. I still need some more steps because my stride length increases when I'm running, which means the route that gives me enough steps when I'm walking falls short when I"m running. Sometimes I wonder if I should just scratch the shorter base runs and do a longer loop at a low to moderate intensity, ane make sure I get my step count up in the process.

We're finally in the Fair air quality zone, so my husband and I hiked 3.5 miles this morning. I had a really difficult time with my allergies though and it was hard to breathe.

Not really much of a workout pulling down another small section of lath and plaster wall and cleaning up the debris but, for what it's worth, it tipped me over 10,000 steps.

My suggested workout today was "recovery", half an hour at a pace that's a fast walk for me. I didn't want to do that, so went for a 10k, although I kept the pace well down from personal best territory. I also took a short break to get some water about half way around the loop, because it was hotter than I expected and I wished I'd taken a bottle with me.

I got a blender this week, and it's good to be able to buzz up some milk, protein powder, banana and whatever other fruit we have floating about. Today's offering included strawberries and some frozen blueberries from last year's haul.
