Why not go to the park and then assemble the grill?

My suggested workout is a longer run today but still at a gentle pace. I'm not sure yet if I'll do that or go for a walk with my wife instead. We have workmen in the house so don't want to be leaving until they are done. I think that will be around lunchtime - they have a lot left to do here but have another job that can't wait, where ours can.

My wife decided she wanted to do some stuff with her plants so I went for my long run. It was a bit on the warm side but still I naturally wanted to go faster than the target pace. I managed to average about 30 seconds per mile faster than the target, I still don't have this thing of running more slowly fully pinned down. It was a good run, although the slower pace made it feel a bit tedious.

We didn't want to be doing it in the heat so we needed to get a good start in the morning when it was cool, but not so cold that my fingers wouldn't work.

I ended up doing loops on my street while my husband used his elliptical in the basement. Then we started on the grill, but had to stop toward the end until the new hose arrived, which was later so we'll finish the assembly and check for gas leaks this morning. Then we'll go for a hike.

Just a gentle walk with my wife today. I was glad I wasn't running, a few muscles felt heavy after running more than usual lately.

We went for a 3 mile hike yesterday and with being outside for the grill and my garden the past few days, my allergies are just awful. I'm hoping this is the last week for the cottonwood to be flying around. We need a good rain but we're not getting any for a week or so.

Are you particularly sensitive to the cold? For it to be cold enough for my fingers to not work it has to be really cold.

Not sure why it posted that four times...

My suggested workout today was sprint repeats. So, like I did before, I did my own repeats rather than following the much easier suggestion from my Garmin.

They weren't as fast as the last set because my legs wouldn't do it, but they were longer and closer together. As before, the last hill was much slower than the first few hills, but I think that means I had the balance right.

When I last did the sprint repeats as suggested by my watch I wanted to get a workout with the primary benefit as "anaerobic" or "sprint" but the recovery times were so long it rated it as a base workout (low aerobic intensity). When I do it my way it comes up with a much higher intensity rating and the primary benefit is anaerobic.

I don't know how my legs will feel in the morning. I've taken multiple breaks from the afternoon to spend a bit more time stretching them.

I have Raynaud's which is poor circulation in my fingers and toes.

Ah, that would make working with metal in the cold more difficult. I can't say I hugely enjoyed fitting metal sheeting to my porch ceiling in the cold, but I think it was maybe November I did that.

Today's walk was a gentle loop with my wife. My suggested workout was a 45-minute base run but I decided to walk instead. I'll probably run again tomorrow. My legs ache a little today after my sprint repeats but not as badly as I thought.

My husband and I both had a really bad allergy day today so workouts are being done indoors.

Easy base level workout today. I still struggle to keep my speed down but I guess my fitness continues to improve because my heart rate stayed lower than it has at the base level speed. When I was done it counted as low aerobic activity rather than high aerobic, so I'm obviously improving even if I still haven't got the hang of running slowly.

I wonder what tomorrow's suggestion will be. I do like sprint repeats but might look to do some more threshold-level activity. On Thursday the new month's worth of challenges begins so I'll be watching for a day I can do a 15k without overheating.

I did my 3 mile hike yesterday but wow, my allergies are really bad this year. I don't see cottonwood flying anymore, so it has to be something else. Last night I heard the fox screaming outside and I remembered how I reacted to fox urine on a trail not long ago. Is it possible the fox in my yard is making me react???

It seems you'd have to be hugely sensitive to it for that to happen but if you are that sensitive it's hard to say.

It was hot by the time I got my run in today. Another fairly slow run, I'm really trying to build up my low aerobic base but keep ending up counting as high aerobic, even if not by a huge margin. Today's suggested workout was a 45-minute base level run, which was just as well given the heat. But I got around it, even if I was quite sweaty by the end.

Next week is supposed to be cooler. Maybe I can get some longer or faster runs in then. It's also a new month so I've got a fresh 15k challenge to tick off, but I won't be going overly fast over that distance.

Yeah, it's awful having so many allergies!!

Last night we kept the air conditioning on and I feel a bit better so I'm going out hiking before it gets really hot. it's supposed to be 85 later!

Today's suggestion is a recovery run, but at a pace that is more like a fast walk for me. I'm not sure whether to do that or make it another base run. I struggle to maintain a slow enough speed for the base runs, I really don't know if maintaining a fast walking pace while nominally running is likely to be successful.

Got 3.5 miles in today at the park and startled a deer and then startled a rabbit and snake that were on the trail together. Friends??

Depends how big the snake was :)

I got a run in today but it was really hot, so I needed to take a break to cool down. It wasn't particularly fast, although faster than a base-level run. I wasn't surprised it rated as tempo-level. Today it was more about getting some miles in and getting my steps in. No way I was going to attempt the 15k in today's heat.

It's supposed to be cooler next week so I'll probably look to get the long run in before it gets hot again.

It was a black rat snake...too small to swallow a rabbit. I think? Aren't rat snakes only about 4 feet in length?

There is another poor air quality alert and it's already hot out so there is no way I'm hiking today. Besides, I have some outdoor furniture to assemble.

A black rat snake can grow to about six feet, a yellow one can get slightly bigger. The red rat snake, aka the corn snake, can reach six feet but they usually top out around 5 feet. Rat snakes wouldn't eat a rabbit, although I can imagine how a fully grown rat snake might eat a baby rabbit.

My suggested workout today is "rest". Which is fine by me, I'll go for a walk with my wife before it gets too hot. Then I've got some more wall building work to do.
