So I've never really read the bible except for maybe a couple of pages. What's the best way to read it? It's so big! Should I start with an audio book or app? If so what do people recommend?

If you've never really read it, I'd suggest starting with the gospels. Maybe read Mark first and then John. Then look at some of Paul's letters, and Acts. Once you've got a bit of a handle on the New Testament, look at some of the Old Testament and see how the OT points forward to what the NT describes.

I would at least start with the beginning of Genesis. That way you KNOW exactly why we need a Savior, and then move onto the New Testament if you don't have time to go through too much else of the OT. I like the book of Romans because it really speaks about salvation.

I make a list of all the books of the Bible and then make it a goal to read at least four chapters a day. I just mark them off as I go. Usually I start with the smaller books first. You can combine books or do one book at a time. If you do that even if you miss some days you will read it through in less than a year

What ever you do, get on a daily reading program. Apps work really good for that. They send over scriptures everyday and you read them. A lot of them have little mini Bible studies about the scriptures of the day. That way you develop a daily reading habit. Most all Bible reading apps and programs will complete the entire Bible in one year. Usually around 2 chapters per day to accomplish that.

When you adopt a plan like that, you habitually read the Bible everyday, which is one of the greatest habits ever. You will find that habit to be life changing!

I would encourage any new believer to start reading the Bible every day. Begin with three NT books.

1. John,
to know Jesus

2. Romans,
to understand how Jesus' teachings applied to the churches

3. 1 John,
to know how to live out the gospel in everyday life

Once you have read these you will have a good foundation from which to then carry on with further studies. The other gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke will help you see different views of Christ Jesus, Acts, also written by Luke, will fill out the story of the start of the Church.

I would recommend a the New King James Version {NKJV} is a modern update to the KJV thus easier to read and understand.

Have a book in which to make notes of passages that stand out to you.

Example
John 1:17 The OT law convicts of sin the NT grace and truth saves from sin.

Spiritual Nutrition II
There is a method to opening yourself up to the Spirit of the Living God while partaking of the Word. Whenever you can do this (open your heart to the Lord) while you are partaking in the written Word, it enables the Spirit of the Lord to take control of your life in every way. It puts you in alignment with the Lord very effectively. It aligns your mindset to hear and understand the Lord like never before. When you can increase your reading of the Lord's Word, the improvements in your relationship with the Lord are substantial.
And absolutely pray these scriptures over every detail and relationship in your life every time for very substantial and powerful results.

Intro: Opening Yourself to the Spirit Through the Word

  • The Word is the primary doorway through which the Spirit of the Living God ministers to the believer.
  • Approaching Scripture with an open, yielded heart allows the Spirit to work deeply and personally.
  • Reading the Word with spiritual openness aligns your thoughts, desires, and decisions with the Lord.
  • Increased Scripture intake strengthens your relationship with God and enhances spiritual sensitivity.
  • Praying Scripture over every area of life invites the Spirit to activate and enforce God’s promises.
  • The Word becomes not just information but transformation when combined with openness and prayer.
There truly is a method to opening yourself to the Spirit of the Living God when you partake of the Word. The Scriptures are not merely ink on a page; they are the living breath of God, and when your heart is open, the Spirit uses that breath to fill you, shape you, and align you. When you approach the Word with a yielded heart — not rushing, not distracted, but consciously inviting the Lord to speak — something supernatural happens. The written Word becomes the doorway through which the Spirit enters your thoughts, your emotions, your desires, and your decisions. It is not mystical in the sense of being strange; it is spiritual in the sense of being deeply real. The more you read, the more your inner life becomes synchronized with the Lord’s heart. The more you meditate, the more your mind becomes trained to recognize His voice. And the more you pray the Scriptures over your life, the more the Spirit takes those words and applies them with power to every relationship, every struggle, every hope, and every hidden place within you.

This is why increasing your intake of Scripture produces such substantial improvement in your walk with God. It is not merely “more knowledge.” It is more contact with the Spirit. More alignment with the Lord’s will. More formation of Christ within you. And when you pray the Word — not just read it — you are inviting the Spirit to enforce, activate, and manifest those truths in your life. This is why praying Scripture over every detail of your life produces such powerful results: you are agreeing with God, and the Spirit moves wherever agreement with God is found.
SCRIPTURES ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD
1. The Word Gives Life, Strength, and Nourishment
Deuteronomy 8:3 — “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.”
Jeremiah 15:16 — “Thy words were found, and I did eat them…”
1 Peter 2:2 — “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word…”

  • The Word is the believer’s essential spiritual food.
  • Scripture must be “eaten,” internalized, and digested.
  • Regular intake produces strength, stability, and vitality.
  • Reading with an open heart allows the Spirit to impart divine life.

The Word of God is not optional fuel for the believer — it is the very sustenance of the inner man. Deuteronomy 8:3 reminds us that spiritual life cannot be maintained by earthly means. Just as your body weakens without food, your spirit weakens without the Word. Jeremiah 15:16 paints the picture vividly: the Word must be eaten, taken in, digested, and allowed to become part of you. Peter echoes this when he calls the Word “milk,” the essential nourishment that causes growth. When you read Scripture with an open heart, you are feeding your spirit with divine strength. You are taking in the life of God Himself. This is why believers who read the Word consistently walk in stability, clarity, and resilience — they are spiritually nourished.

Exhortation: Feed on the Word daily. Do not wait until you feel weak. Eat before you faint. Let the Word be your breakfast, your strength, and your sustaining power.
2. The Word Purifies, Cleanses, and Sanctifies
Psalm 119:9 — “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.”
John 17:17 — “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”
Ephesians 5:26 — “Washed by the water of the word.”

  • Scripture cleanses the heart and renews the mind.
  • Sanctification is accomplished through the truth of God’s Word.
  • The Word washes away impurity and aligns the believer with holiness.
  • Reading invites the Spirit to remove what does not belong.

The Word does not only nourish — it cleanses. Psalm 119:9 tells us plainly that purity is not achieved by willpower but by aligning our lives with the Word. Jesus Himself prayed, “Sanctify them through Thy truth,” revealing that sanctification is not a human achievement but a divine operation performed through Scripture. Ephesians 5:26 describes the Word as water that washes the believer. When you read Scripture, the Spirit uses it to scrub away wrong thinking, sinful desires, and spiritual residue. It cleans the conscience. It renews the mind. It purifies motives.

Exhortation: Let the Word wash you. Do not resist its cleansing. Every time you read, ask the Spirit to remove what does not belong and to sanctify what remains.
3. The Word Protects and Arms the Believer
Psalm 119:11 — “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
Ephesians 6:17 — “The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Proverbs 30:5 — “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield…”

  • Scripture stored in the heart becomes a shield against sin.
  • The Word is the Spirit’s sword — an active weapon in spiritual warfare.
  • God’s promises form a protective barrier around the believer.
  • Internalizing Scripture equips you for temptation and conflict.

The Word is not only food and water — it is armor. Psalm 119:11 teaches that hiding the Word in your heart is a defensive strategy against sin. Ephesians 6:17 calls the Word “the sword of the Spirit,” meaning the Spirit Himself wields Scripture as a weapon in your life. Proverbs 30:5 declares that every word of God is a shield. When you internalize Scripture, you are equipping yourself with divine weaponry. You are giving the Spirit ammunition to fight your battles, resist temptation, and silence the enemy’s lies.

Exhortation: Arm yourself daily. Do not walk into spiritual conflict unarmed. Memorize Scripture. Speak it. Pray it. Let the Word be your shield and your sword.
4. The Word Produces Growth, Wisdom, and Discernment
Psalm 119:105 — “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Psalm 19:7 — “The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”
Hebrews 5:14 — “Strong meat belongs to them… who by reason of use have their senses exercised.”

  • Scripture illuminates the believer’s path and reveals direction.
  • The Word imparts wisdom beyond natural ability.
  • Consistent use of Scripture trains spiritual senses to discern good from evil.
  • Growth comes through continual exposure and obedience.

Psalm 119:105 reveals that the Word is guidance — a lamp for your feet and a light for your path. Without Scripture, you walk in shadows and guesswork. Psalm 19:7 promises that the Word makes the simple wise, meaning it elevates your understanding beyond your natural capacity. Hebrews 5:14 teaches that consistent use of the Word trains your senses to discern good from evil. This is spiritual maturity — the ability to recognize what is of God and what is not.

Exhortation: Grow through the Word. Do not settle for spiritual infancy. Let Scripture sharpen your discernment and expand your wisdom.

John 6:68
“Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.”

There is nowhere else to turn. No other source of life. No other fountain of truth. No other voice that leads to eternal life. When you open your heart to the Word, you are opening your heart to the Lord Himself — and He will meet you, feed you, cleanse you, arm you, grow you, guide you, and anchor you. LORD: Your Will be done!!

5. The Word Must Be Studied, Meditated On, and Obeyed
Joshua 1:8 — “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth… then thou shalt make thy way prosperous.”
Psalm 1:2–3 — “His delight is in the law of the Lord… he shall be like a tree planted by rivers of water.”
2 Timothy 2:15 — “Study to shew thyself approved unto God…”

  • Prosperity and success flow from continual meditation on Scripture.
  • Delight in the Word roots the believer like a well‑watered tree.
  • Study is required for spiritual approval and maturity.
  • Meditation transforms information into revelation; obedience produces fruit.
Joshua 1:8 gives the formula for prosperity and success in God’s eyes: continual meditation and faithful obedience. Psalm 1 describes the blessed man as one who delights in the Word and meditates on it day and night. Paul instructs Timothy to study diligently so he can stand approved before God. Reading alone is not enough — the Word must be pondered, internalized, and obeyed. Meditation turns information into transformation. Obedience turns revelation into fruit.
Exhortation: Do not rush through Scripture. Slow down. Meditate. Let the Word sink deep. And above all, obey what you read — for obedience is the proof of love.
6. The Word Reveals God’s Voice and God’s Will
Hebrews 4:12 — “The word of God is quick, and powerful… a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Romans 10:17 — “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Psalm 119:130 — “The entrance of thy words giveth light.”

  • Scripture is living, active, and able to discern the heart.
  • Faith is born through hearing the Word.
  • The entrance of the Word brings light, clarity, and revelation.
  • Immersion in Scripture trains the believer to recognize God’s voice.
Hebrews 4:12 describes the Word as living and active, able to pierce and discern the deepest parts of the human heart. Romans 10:17 teaches that faith itself is born from hearing the Word. Psalm 119:130 declares that the entrance of God’s Word brings light — illumination, revelation, understanding. When you read Scripture, you are positioning yourself to hear God clearly. The Word trains your spiritual ears. It reveals God’s character, His desires, His ways, and His will.
Exhortation: If you want to hear God, immerse yourself in His Word. Let Scripture tune your heart to the frequency of His voice.
7. The Word Endures Forever
Isaiah 40:8 — “The grass withers… but the word of our God shall stand forever.”
Matthew 24:35 — “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
1 Peter 1:23–25 — The Word is incorruptible and eternal.

  • Everything temporal fades, but God’s Word remains unchanging.
  • Jesus’ words outlast heaven and earth.
  • Scripture is incorruptible, eternal, and permanently reliable.
  • The Word is the only stable foundation in a shifting world.

Isaiah 40:8 reminds us that everything in this world fades, but the Word of God stands forever. Jesus Himself declared that heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will never pass away. Peter affirms that the Word is incorruptible and eternal. This means Scripture is the only stable foundation in a collapsing world. It is the only truth that does not shift. It is the only voice that does not lie. It is the only anchor that holds.

Exhortation: Build your life on what is eternal. Trust the Word more than culture, more than feelings, more than circumstances. Everything else will fade — but the Word will remain.

⭐ 8. The LORD is Worthy
Revelation 4:11 — “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power…”
Psalm 145:3 — “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.”
Psalm 96:8–9 — “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name… worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”
Revelation 5:12 — “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom…”
1 Chronicles 16:29 — “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name…”
God’s worthiness is the foundation of all worship and obedience.

  • The Lord deserves glory, honor, and praise because of who He is, not only what He does.
  • His greatness is infinite, unsearchable, and beyond human comprehension.
  • Worship aligns the believer’s heart with heaven’s perspective.
  • Declaring God’s worthiness strengthens faith and restores spiritual focus.
  • The Lamb is worthy because He was slain and redeemed us by His blood.
  • Giving God glory is not optional — it is the rightful response of every created being.
The culmination of all spiritual nutrition, all revelation, all cleansing, all growth, and all discernment is this simple, eternal truth: the Lord is worthy. Revelation 4:11 declares that He alone deserves glory, honor, and power — not because of what He gives us, but because of who He is. His worthiness is not measured by His blessings but by His nature. He is holy, eternal, sovereign, and infinitely good. Psalm 145:3 reminds us that His greatness is unsearchable; no amount of study, meditation, or worship will ever exhaust the depths of His majesty. The more you grow in the Word, the more you realize that worship is not a ritual — it is the only fitting response to the revelation of God.

When you declare the Lord’s worthiness, you align your heart with heaven’s anthem. Revelation 5:12 shows the cry of the redeemed and the angels: “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.” This is not a suggestion — it is the eternal song of the universe. Worship lifts your eyes from earthly concerns and fixes them on the One who reigns above all. It restores perspective, strengthens faith, and brings your spirit into harmony with the Spirit of God. Psalm 96 calls us to give the Lord the glory due His name — meaning worship is not optional; it is owed. It is the rightful offering of every heart that has been redeemed.

To proclaim “The Lord is worthy” is to step into the eternal purpose for which you were created. It is to join the chorus of heaven, the testimony of the saints, and the cry of the redeemed. It is to acknowledge that every breath, every blessing, every moment of grace flows from the One who sits upon the throne. And when your life becomes a declaration of His worthiness, everything else — obedience, holiness, devotion, Scripture intake, prayer — flows naturally from that revelation.

SUMMARY FOR THE ENTIRE TEACHING

The Word of God is the believer’s lifeline — nourishment, cleansing, protection, wisdom, direction, and eternal stability. When you open your heart to the Spirit while reading Scripture, the written Word becomes living power within you. It feeds your spirit, purifies your motives, arms you for battle, grows your discernment, and reveals God’s voice with clarity. As you study, meditate, and obey, the Word roots you like a tree planted by rivers of water. As you pray Scripture over your life, the Spirit applies it with precision and authority. And because the Word endures forever, it becomes the only unshakable foundation in a world that constantly shifts. Truly, like Peter declared, there is nowhere else to go — only Jesus has the words of eternal life, and those words are given to you every time you open the Scriptures with a yielded heart.
