But in the church, I would rather speak five coherent words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. Brothers, stop thinking like children. 1 Corinthians 14:19
I believe he is promoting those to excell in the gifts, tongues is the lowest gift but its just as important a member as the interpreter and so on.
He is speaking of the gifts to help build up the church but there is also personal benefits to praying in the spirit, its a direct current of thanks to God, you may not understand what is being said but you can definitely feel it, the mind is inactive so to speak. It builds up the temple which ye are the temple, in the spirit and spirit in you.
Calling it a "feeling" is for a major lack of a better word, "in spirit" (inspire) fits better.
"Truth" for me is different than the science perspective or use of truth, its spiritual, its more than a feeling because its permanent .
Its not something I have to point out in any book, its a different truth, not the truth of man, but the one and only Truth.
Lutherans will argue that charity is not necessary for salvation, of course its not, the unbelieving thief the was crucified along side Jesus was redeemed amen.
But the mistake this argument makes is that they will it that all charity then, is unnecessary and label it Dogma.
Jesus says that if you see a sheep that is in need of saving its ok and encouraged to work to save it. Jesus will save them through us as well, the children of God and the body of Christ, we are the temple, our bodies infused with the spirit creates Charity, healing a brother in need with Love, and forgiveness and preaching the gospel.
I knew I was saved in Christ but with this understanding one has to walk through the door of doubt to strengthen faith, the blessing of the Holy Spirit destroys that doubt and kills depression, the peace overwhelms you. Each day onward you feel closer and closer to God than death, God draws nearer and nearer each day and faith increases. I thank God that a 2000 year old method (1c14:23) saved me through some silly church "with an idea some 200 years ago" that brought back this so called "useless" form of charity.
From where you left off...
20Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults.*21In the Law it is written:
“With other tongues
and through the lips of foreigners
I will speak to this people,
but even then they will not listen to me,
says the Lord.”e
22Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers; prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers.*23So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?*24But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all,25as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”
