    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

A gentle run today. It turned out a little less gentle than I originally planned but only slightly. The route is getting steadily easier, especially now it isn't so hot and humid. I'm hoping to get a lot more running done before there's snow and ice on the roads.

    Vote Democrat! Stop Hurricanes?

Was the end of the world meant to be this decade? I thought it was last decade. It's so hard to keep up...

    Hybrids

De-extinction sounds like it could be a good idea, as long as we're careful about what we bring back. Bringing back something like the dodo might be good for the planet and seems unlikely to harm the existing ecosystem. Bringing back something like a sabre-toothed tiger or a T-rex seems like...

    The clergy loophole

This seems like a really thorny issue, as with a few things relating to people who have unhealthy attractions to children. There's certainly a strong case for protecting the children who are almost invariably the innocent victims in situations like this. I say "almost invariably" because I'm...

If you were given a quarter

Breathe or blink probably. That would seem like a good way to get rich. That said I wouldn't say no to a quarter every time my heart beats when I'm out running.

    Hybrids

Yep, we're so fond of wondering whether we can do something we seldom seem to stop and think if it's a good idea. Obviously movies like Jurassic Park and Species are fictional but I sometimes wonder how close we are to creating something that gets out of hand faster than we can get it back...

Yes, it can be awkward if you go in and take a seat only to find the menu is unappealing or hideously expensive, or the place has a dress code and you're not even remotely suitably dressed. One advantage of visiting a place you like again and again is that you get to know the good places to...

I know, the main point of my post was the section about trying to get totally different species to cross-breed.

    Hybrids

In Genesis the text says that God said that the animals should reproduce with their own kind. The text doesn't say that man couldn't one day tinker with the DNA and get things to cross breed. Since lions and tigers are both cats it's easy to see that if you could use one to impregnate the other...

How long does it take you to get to church?

On foot about 15 minutes. By car about 2-3 minutes. We have other options that are closer - one church is about a 2 minute walk - but we like the church we attend so never tried the closer one.

It's surprising how fast you can rack up steps at the beach. My wife and I like to walk the beach at low tide collecting shells and we've been known to go over 30,000 in a day. No great speed, just walking far enough that nobody else is out there and then just pacing looking for them. Today I...

    More durable cars

The key thing you need to remember is that the environment counts for more or less nothing where regulations are concerned. You comment on cars but the same applies to just about everything. No user serviceable parts means that when it breaks the whole thing goes to the landfill. Appliances...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

I set out for a moderate run but noticed that what felt like a moderate pace in the first half mile or so was significantly faster than I usually go. Slowing the pace slightly for the hills in the first mile still ended up being much faster than normal. My longer run last week indicated I should...

When is my curse going to be broken?

Just to pick up on this, I loosely know a guy who was in his 70s and never married. Given his age and faith I would assume he remained a virgin but it's none of my business so I can't say with 100% certainty. During his 70s he moved into assisted living and met a widowed lady who he ended up...

    Lämmchen's Workout Thread

I wasn't sure whether to run or hike today but in the end hiking won the day. So I took in a little over eight miles in the mountains. Tomorrow I think I'll run again.

I have a belt I was given as a teenager. At the time it was too big for me but I grew into it. Then I grew too fat for it. Now I can (and do) wear it again.

    Your denomination's vaccine stance?

I'm not aware of a denominational stance. Truth be told I don't care what stance a denomination might take on it - absent a clear instruction in Scripture one way or the other I don't see it as relevant for them to state anything other than an opinion, and their opinion carries no more and no...
